their current trip in the Golden State San Poly— In Tuesday's 2 win over Fresno it was junior pitching ace Jerri walking Kelley who turned in a fine performance pitching a only two and striking out seven including the third out in three innings Hitting honors went to junior leftfielder Jan Cowles who hit two for run three and scored the Fresno was the first to score with one run in the bottom of the fifth In the top of the sixth USU’s Pam Edde led off with a shortstop advanced to second by Nancy Mauchley Cowles then hit to shortstop who overthrew 1st base giving Cowles an opportunity at the bases and Cowles scored on a Edde scored USU’s first run on a throw-awa- y wild pitch putting the Ags ahead 1 USU scored its third run in the top of the seventh when Kelley doubled and was later batted in by Logan’s Cindy Speth Fresno's threat in the bottom of the seventh scored one more run but timely catches by Cowles and Speth and then a strike-ou- t by Kelley ended the inning and gave the Ags the win Coach John Horan was pleased with Aggie hitting “We hit a lot of hard balls" and with “the way our kids are holding together We are trying different combinations and still working out with a 234 game 632 series with Scott and John both tallying two 200 games each The final three games of the day were to be bowled in the afternoon with each school bowling each other once USU faced BYU in the first game and downed the Cougars 2 The Aggies continued their domination of the Cougars for the eighth time in ten games John Martin was high for the Aggies with a 232 game followed by Dan Drake with a 198 and Ken Morley with a 179 each of them also winning their individual points The victory wrapped up second place for the Aggies and in the final match the Aggie defeated Utah 2 with Utah State will not be making the trip to nationals in Ttta Seattle as a team but two members will be there Alicia Johnston —A Jodi Mabb were invited on the basis of their Regional scores Johnston scored 355 while Mabb finished with a 342 intnm finished the regular season with the nation’s ninth best individual record Both Johnston and Mabb will compete for the title and for medals in the normal four events As a tuneup for Nationals and a chance for USU and Cache Valley residents to see quality gymnastics for the final time this year the will host Michigan State Tuesday at 7:30 Aggies pjn in the Spectrum This will be a normally judged dual meet For Michigan State this will be a tuneup for Seattle Having qualified in tenth place their entire team will compete for the National crown
