Show May 9 1975 m IIYTIK o Bigotry As I walked into the Hub Wednesday in search of a glass of ice I heard a very insulting comment directed to two Indian students that were walking in front of me Their reaction was one of anger and resentment but being out numbered three to one they refrained from doing anymore than responding with similar insults I was only a bystander but I felt my own anger begin to rise What kind of an ass would choose to represent his race in such a fine manner as to sit around throwing insults at people who he feels are inferior due to the color of their skin or social status Its no wonder that Blacks Mexicans and Indians all feel that the white race has been a great oppressor What really gripes me is that “"“every time one individual commits an act such as I have referred to that people who do not look down their nose at a person because of a difference in race or religion end up sharing part of the blame crumbs In this complex industrialized world that man has constructed the delicate balance of nature of the land has been forsaken to enhance individual greed It is sometimes difficult to remain aware of this intangible process as we continue to entrench ourselves further and further in vast megalopolis’ that deny almost all but human existence But be aware of it we must for man may one day find himself locked in a cement womb with nothing to hunt and slaughter but himself I am therefore boycotting any products exported to this country from Japan and I vigorously oppose any trade agreements with the Soviet Union until the blood of the whales is washed from their hands I urge every concerned individual to do the same that supreme law Scott M Lewis 546-66-38- Hathaway revisted Deserve Respect Even though I am a white man it still irritates me to see the arrogance the white race can carry with it I grew up around Indians and Mexicans and never in my life have felt they were inferior The first association I had with the black man was when I joined the service It didn’t take me long to realize how human they were and how capable they are of having ths same or equal hopes feelings' and aspirations that any man is free to have In all groups of people there are those that make it damn hard for the rest of us I hope that those students that are a minority here at USU will realize that not everyone here is prejudice and not let them drag you down to their level Don’t put all of us in the same class because a few people need their skulls cracked for being so narrow-minde- d and pig headed Brian Spaulding 518-66-69- 37 o This is in response to the letter by John A Patterson (SL about Stanely K Hathaway Mr Hathaway has been nominated for the Secretary of the Interior First about predator control in his letter On the average sheepmen lose about 10 percent of their stock in the West Losses due to predators are from 7 percent with an average of 3 percent Total sheep losses in the East are on the average about 8) 2-- 11 percent and there are no coyotes there Second I seriously doubt whether Stanely K Hathaway really cares about the fate of Western ranchers He is a man who is more interested in making the West look like the East both economically and ecologically Putting this man into the position of Secretary of the Interior would be as insane as wiping out the coyote population to give the sheepmen a few more sheep to put on the declining market Save whales Dear Editor The following is a letter written in protest to the needless slaughter of whales by the nations of Japan and the Soviet Union Persons sharing similar feelings should address their letters to the International London Whaling Commission England The International Whaling Commission TO: writing this letter to continued ruthless the protest of whales by the nations slaying of Japan and the Soviet Union The whale is one of the most magnificient creatures to evolve on this planet and due to a total lack of human insight it is now in danger of becoming extinct While some countries recognize this fact and have banned the slaughter of these mammals the nations of Japan and Russia I Editor Student Life: am Rich Thelin 347-52-00- o Thanks to Rick Editor Student Life: On behalf of all students and faculty at USU who share my sentiment I would like to thank Richard Brady for a year of work that was marked by hellfire brimstone and fine writing In my four years as a student here I rarely came across an editorial that packed any more punch than 32 beer until this year Brady’s output was a shot of Tequila by comwith the parison past I don’t aim to patronize without regard to content Rick’s job is a hard one to fill and a harder one to believe in Any SL editor who tries to please everyone at a school like this is bound to be an fool with few intellectual convictions and that is what we have seen for years Not so with Rick whose opening editorial of the year was the Roman candle that burst into flame and burned through the
