- minority groups He said the decision was based on market advice furnished by the US Manpower Administration ' “For several years the Manpower Administration has advised us that unemployment among American youth is of such magnitude' that summer" employment of aliens is depriving young Americans of needed employment opportunities” he " said According to the Manpower Administration Chapman said the unemployment rate amoung youth exceeds the national average Chapman emphasized of that em- DD2poiietDDa dlpopp©® s An injunction against six Logan city officials alleging salary and expense account violations was dismissed Monday One plaintiff in the suit Newell J Olson said that the injunction against payment of the salaries to the officials involved was dropped because they reduced their salaries back to normal The defendants ihcluded Mayor Logan The businesses were charged fro back payment of business licenses amounting from $18000 to $20000 Olson’s lawsuit also alleges that the city did not have the right to cancel payment of $11000 that the county owed the city foreign students in need ployment for economic reasons due to unforeseen circumstances which arose after entry into the US may continue to apply to the Service for work permission at any time Such students he said are not limited to summer work Upon graduation foreign students may also apply to the Service for approval to engage in practical ‘training in a field related to their course of study A representative of the Utah Immigration and Naturalization service said that office will not authorize foreign students to work this summer unless they can demonstrate “real financial need since entering the US” may take another jump by Dennis Frantzen Senior Writer Earlier this year the In- stitutional Council approved a hike in housing With the new minimum wage on-camp- us hike in effect student housing may take another jump “We don’t know the impact of the wage hike as yet but it looks like we are going to have to make up the difference somewhere” Vice President for Business Affairs Dee Broadbent said Monday Broadbent is presently working on estimates for the wage hike to present to the Utah Legislature With these estimates Broadbent hopes to get state support for those departments that need the money It is those areas like housing the bookstore and food services that will have to jack up their prices to make up the difference generated by the wage hike At the moment the figures are only an educated guess Broadbent says that the cost for housing without food will go up about three percent Housing rates where food is offered might go up by five percent The rate hike if instituted will be in addition to the hike approved by the Institutional Council earlier The budget that came before the Utah Legislature asked for monies to make up the difference that would " ovvur if the wage hike came into law But the legislature turned down USU’s request for the additional funds Now it is up to Broadbent’s office to estimate the additional funds that are needed Of course Broadbent’s figures are only educated guesses at this time When he comes up with the amount of increase needed to offset the wage hike--i- f any it will still have to be approved by the Institutional Council and the Board of Regents before the students are asked to shell out Desmond Anderson and several city commissioners Earlier this year they vnted- themselyes -
