Show October 19r 1973 Fes 2 editorial comment Man and Woman One woman s view Dear Laura Somebody can ’t park I am deviating from the conventional editorial form using the first person because don't expect my whole staff (nine out of 18 are woman) to support what will say I address you Laura but let your name signify I I I women generally A woman is a human being and therefore is entitled to the same human rights as a man — the right to vote the right to equal employment the right to hold political office (even the highest in the land) the right to be s drafted the right to go and the right to bear children (that's one you have over me) But Laura please be kind when demanding your rights You make it unreasonably difficult for me when you demand that I give women equal mention when referring to persons in general What shall I say? "A man (or woman)? woman (or in his (or her)? her (or man)? persons? ? his) its? field is a valuable asset to society" Dr Benjamin Spock solved the problem for himself when he announced he would forthwith use "she" and "her" when referring to persons generally But did he really solve the problem? No he simply reversed it Perhaps someone will invent a way to refer to the "family of man" without hurting soman's feelings I haven't done it and probably never will Somehow the "family of homo sapien" just doesn't make it and can't think of anything else that would do you justice Do you see how difficult you make it for me Laura? respect you value you My best friend is a woman But please forgive me if refer to you momentarily as "a man" cr "he" rather than "it" by Pauline Summers Bikes may be the hot issue on campus right now but the parking of the enviromental monster is still a problem With the limited amount of parking that exists at USU improper parking can be annoying Despite the fact that the University has acquired 85 new parking stalls there is still a shortage of parking places and your parking sticker doesn’t guarantee you a bra-les- well-traine- spot Some drivers feel that their car requires two stalls rather than one or that the yellow lines mark where the d center of their automobile should be when they stop Some drivers are also under the illusion that driveways are for parking in instead of going through There is a limited amount of parking space which the campus has to offer but the proper use of this space and correct parking procedures may help ease the frustration of parking on campus I I I I FRANKLY SPEAKING by phil frank Sincerely Brent 1T WXF'WILL JOHN Staff Brerrf Barker IM Pat Bercrdy Managing Editor J Chris Lcrson Htwi Eater Steve Snow Business Manager Carol Bcrmer Editorial Assistant Senior writers: Pauline Summers Let Ann Allen Elen Nicholson IM tiff to flGAM TOMORROW NIGHT TO NBC NEW5L STUMWT aJ ECfTOtlAl tatori Richard AJbright totofcihtoifltotonilwrttoiiiiio - l J1— IJ— 'Tmoiuji 'liimtofttoimrmoMr — - tt to ontMifwtowv ui mw lirnaitoutoB xi uu rtot a an CKKHS IfH 1 V)r r'Wky ?
