Show November 29 1972 Page 10 JV’s i foitf Led by Reed Thomas Steve Laing and Darryl Owens the 1972-- 3 junior varsity of Utah State opened their season with a resounding Logan All-Sta- 100 to 56 win over the rs Thomas hit 13 to 22 shots and one free throw to lead all scorers with 27 points Eight of Thomas’ buckets were of the fast break lay-u- p variety Laing popped in 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Owens hit 15 counters and hauled in 13 boards to lead in that category Bob Stokes had 10 rebounds to help the Rambler cause were made The Logan of ball former players with up All-Sta- rs some type of college experience Using a zone type offense the JV’s started off slow and led 1 at the mid break This type of offense slows the play down but usually results in a shot near defense kept Weston’s from the bucket allowing only a 32 percent shooting average in the first half The second half saw Coach Bill Bibb empty the bench and allow Weston’s to narrow the USU lead Rupp kept his hot hand in the second stanza by hitting six of eight and two free throws for 14 points He finished the night with 28 points Thomas cooled in the second half with only six points Bibb started the game with a offense but quickly switched to the running type of game With the running type offense the Ramblers are able to score quicker This Friday the Ramblers will take on Ricks College The
