She says “we do not invade other countries to take theirs” The Viet Cong and the Cambodians might disagree with her about Justice Douglas's Regardless views on other matters he has correctly dilineated the central problem of our time in the above statement The history of society is a history of the rising and falling of various institutions — institutions whose purpose in one form or another is to channel human effort or to coordinate human activity Such an institution is the University Its implied and stated goals are among the highest of human aspiration The University seeks to promote understanding to enlighten to discover and to create Over the past decade the American university has come under great stress Many have questioned its goals Some have doubted its legitimacy They ask "How well has the University promoted understanding? How well does it enlighten? Whom has it sought to — men or all a enlighten just privileged few? What has it discovered? Are its resources really used for creative purposes or are they directed toward destructive end-s?of our feelings She asks us remember homeless to ‘‘starved children in order maintain his dictatorship -not by the Vietnamese people who have a right to their own government even if it is co- mmunist She is thankful that someone is doing the “dirty work” for her Again Lt Calley? Or maybe the pilots who have dropped more bombs on Vietnam than were dropped in all of World War II (only on military targets of course)? Dirty work it is indeed perhaps the dirtiest work in terms of human suffering the world has ever known She can thank her God that someone is fighting for her (a all other atrocities and Christian prayer?) but I am of wars and be thankful sickened and revolted that the ugliness that we’re not fighting for our horror and carnage is being lives in our own lands” Is she accomplished by my country in remembering the hundreds of my name with my taxes I feel as thousands of dead and maimed any decent German must have Vietnamese the great majority felt in 1946 when he was coof whom are the victims of our nfronted with the testimony of attacks (defending our freedom Nuremberg no doubt)? Or the unnumbered Finally I agree we must work and for peace and at the moment the homeless Vietnamese Laotions evicted by us from their most effective way to do this is to homes for the establishment of register participate in the free fire zones? Or the thousands political process and work for the of political prisoners in the jails nomination and election of of South Vietnam?
