Show X J 8 Paqe 4 Student Life - Utah State University Wednesday January Studen: Dick Shater 'Life Staff W riter — Peace Corfu booth manned by return volunteers has proved to be a popular attraction for USU students According to Junior Jim Lendall "it seems the Peace Corps recruitors are the military representatives” "This seems doing far better than to be a good sign ” The volunteers are here in conjunction with Governor Calvin Rampton’s declaration of Peace Corps W'eek for Utah DECLARATION WHEREAS the Peace Corps is dedicated to the development of an international atmosphere conducive to the establishment of a true and lasting world peace and WHFREAS one of this nations most successful endeavors in the field of international relations is the Peace Corps and W'HEREAS the Peace Corps has been charged with the responsibility of helping citizens of the emerging nations attain their peaceful objectives by teaching and initiating improved methods of agriculture health nutrition education etc and W'HEREAS some 150 Utahns have already accepted the challenge of Peace Corps service and are serving or have served in 53 different nations of Latin America Africa and Asia: -- NOW' THEREEORE I Calvin L Rampton Governor of the State of Utah do hereby declare the week of January 21st through 27th 1948 as PEACE CORPS W'EEK IN UTAH and call upon all Utahns to explore opportunities of service to humanity via the Peace Corps and give tribute to those who have already accepted and faced the challenge The Peace Corps representatives will be on campus the entire week and will speak to various classes fraternities sororities clubs and other interested groups A film "One Step At a Time” will be shown daily at 1 :30 p m in UB 301 The Peace Corps placement examination will be given to interested students Wednesday through Friday at 2:30 and 8 pm in UB SI” A completed application must be presented in order to take the examination Representatives on campus are Ken Hill a USU graduate of 1964 Hill majored in Political Science and served with the Peace Corps in Turkey Katsuyoshi Nishimoto also majored in Political Science and is a graduate of UCLA Nishimoto served his two years in well-earne- d Colombia jV If4r Kathleen Jo Quinlan is the only female of the group and is a Social Science major from San Diego State College Quinlan spent a lot of time in Africa in both Guinea and Somalia and claims to have eaten a lot of rice she misses the "beautiful” s African people Craig Damstrom is a Montana State University graduate and an Agriculture major He worked on a land resettlement project in Guatemala Joe Keeton an English supervisor for the Corps in Thailand was a History major at the University of Califorina at Berkely Any student interested in the Peace Corps should contact one of the five representatives at the booth located in the Union Building near the Bookstore Katsoosh Nishmoto X SV v v-- xI & V Kathy Quinlan Ken Hil! 24 |
