years at Utah State University Daryl Chase President 'Student Life' Tells Veterans Must Pay Some Editorial Policy School Costs The flag on the front page of this publication reads: STUDENT LIFE Serving The Students of Utah State University Those words may sound simple but actually they are quite profound regarding this newspaper's policy The words “'STUDENT LIFE-- couldn't be more exact in describing the paper's main news source Our formost concern is to report and interpret the noteworthy events and ideas students of this campus are creating participating in affected by and concerned with And by students we mean all the students — not one or a few select groups of them To this paper a student equals a reader and a reader equals a mind that consumes information We rare not what size color shape race religion or descent the people who read our publication are The words “Serving The Students of Utah State Univeisitv” were added to the paper's flag this year solely to and reiterate who this paper exists for As mentioned above the words STUDENT LIFE explain excellently what and whom we cover Through the years however the writer believes many readers have let the name "STUDENT LIFE” come to mean nothing more to them than a brand name and-o- r a trade mark such as “Brand X” cigarettes The words “Serving The Students of Utah State University” then means this paper serves the general studentbody first as this group is student groups and the organizations and activities they foster second and the faculty and administration third but I This does not mean this publication is 'rather means It believes itself mature enough to be independent and determine logical policies of its own without superfluous outside guidance and influence Student Life welcomes letters to the editor providing they are reasonable in length logic and literacy If a paper does not stimulate enough thought to draw comment and discussion it is a failure Utah State and the Logan area seem to the writer to be exceptionally “conservative” One logical reason for this could be that not enough creative and imaginative ideas have been presented the If they are not presented obviously populace for consideration people cannot react to them It is Student Life’s goal to present them this year ’ be MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26 1966 LIFE STUDENT The Veterans Administration announces that the veteran going to school should be prepared to pay his expenses for at least two months Reason stems from the fact that law requires that monthly certificates of attendance signed by veterans checks Prompt sending and accurate handling of the certificates by the veteran will eliminate further delays In order to get full benefits the veteran must be registered for at least 14 hours Full monthly benefits are $100 for a veteran with no dependents S125 for one dependent and $150 for two dependents Monthly benefits for veterans taking 34 credit load are $75 S95 and $115 monthly depending on the number of dependents Money or w ages from outside sources is of no interest to the VA It does not affect the size of the benefit that the veteran may receive 155 NORTH MAIN ST — DIAL I 752-772-
