Show 2 In — STUDENT LIFE 30 1?44 SEPTEMBER Letters To Editor Our Opinion ASUSU Politics: Reader States Opinion On Apathetic Activity? School Spirit ASUSU Tonight at 5 in the Union faculty lounge the How of school this first will year hold its Senate meeting there? be of will you many On some campuses student government is considered for the junior college and not to meet the scholastic image of a major university OTHERS CLAIM THAT it is the only way to achieve a democratic university and give opportunity to men and women to exercise their powers and abilities of leadership We feel student government is a varied composite Yes it can be small-tim- e college if students think of it as such and don't spend any time or effort in attempting to keep it on a high level However when students take an active interest in it student government can provide stimulating growth to the individual as well as upgrade the university by making known the democratic voice of the students Student interest in Senate shouldn't stop at election time Make known your opinions to your senators and see that they carry out their responsibility to you Senate faces many Editor Student Life Do USU students attend football games to watch their representative team match its talent or do they go to burst forth with nauseating animalistic sounds often labeled' as school spirit or organized cheering? spirit is just what spirit why try and make it tangible? It appears that football itself is not able1 to captivate an audience fori the regular playing time but must be supplemented with ridiculous cheers which (I can assure you) the players on the field don’t listen to anyway Who are wTe trying to impress with our screaming? Is there no other way to enjoy the game and feel as though we are benefiting the' team than through being yel-- J led at through electrical speakers as to the value of forced chants and ?J Does mankind always have to be organized even when' his uniformity yields little or' no benefit to himself or others? Year after year student it decisions and problems at each meeting that affect the studcntbody but the only students who attend are the senators TONIGHT SENATE WILL be presented with the ASUSU Platform this platform contains improvement and suggestions on ten campus issues which have been studied carefully by both students and faculty Find out what this platform says and decide whether or not you are in favor of it It gives some interesting suggestions to campus problems Room 211 of the Union — j war-hoo- A chauffer drove an empty car up to Capitol Ilill and two politicians got out According to the cynical elec- tion observer that is But as one wanders across the quad these days one can almost hear everyone say “I wonder why a body should be cynical about politics in general and sardonic about the November third election in particular?” One of the candidates should appeal to everyone in the U S of A But then why is Art Hoppe of the San Francisco Chrinicle managing a “Nobody for President” campaign? For the same reason that there are only 32 whooping cranes left in the world entire? No Good candidates are not becoming extinct as a phylum Art Hoppe’s uninformed Obviously he hasn’t heard of Yetta Bronstein She’s running as an Independent Candidate for President of the United States e don’t you know This is the official candidate for the Best Party 507 Fifth Avenue Suite 320 New York City Yetta B lists her platform as follows: “Lowering voting age to 18 Better Government Floridation National Bingo Sex Education and Stronger Governmc nt” What better solutions to the world problems could a woman candidate offer? The caution included on Y B’s handbill roads “Do not pull the wrong levers and spoil your vote for Yetta Bronstein Take a pencil to the voting booth and write in her name on ballot” Speaking of formulas what ps leaders concern themselves wun tne question: how can we better organize our student cheering at the athletic events? Is there validity for their worries? Are they afraid something is wrong because we are not like a pack of cheering puppets as at other schools? Must there be planned noise to illustrate school spirit? Think about it others have Mark Twain stated “Noise proves nothing Often a hen who has merely laid an egg cackles as if she had laid an How bout Y efia?
