Show PONY EXPRESS REVIYEE The Pony Express rides again! In keeping with the theme “Let the Future B Nourished by the Past” Governor George D Clyd will receive his invitation to the Centennial festivi ties by pony express An important phase of our great western histon was the pony express For more than a quarter o a century the communities of the West were de combination for com pendent upon the rider-hors- e munication The motto of these hardy men was “The mail must go through” They never forgol this motto in their duties They faced every kinc of opposition from the extreme weather condition' to the danger of Indian raids and mail robbers In the year 1858 the pony express was replaced by the continental telegraph system However it was still used to convey messages to the smaller outlying communities in Utah one of these being Act was Logan So in 1862 as the Land-Grapassed the pony express probably delivered the message to the leaders in this area As a part of the Centennial celebration this important event will be reinacted An invitation to the Centennial Ball will be delivered to Governor Clyde in Salt Lake City from the USU campus by pony express The Rodeo Club will stagger horses and riders at various points along the original trail The first rider will leave the south end of the Union Building at 7 am Monday March 5 and proceed to the south end of the valley The riders will continue across the mountains down Weber Canyon and on to Salt Lake This is the same route the original pony express riders took between Logan and Salt Lake There Governor Clyde will meet the rider and receive the first official invitation to the Centennial Ball nt students and alumni are all invited to join in activities of our Land-GraCentennial Celebration hoped by the planning committee that everyone will Nta opportunity to participate in at least some of the Mies in order to catch a glimpse of the dynamic nature movement and to have fun faculty nt s Land-Gra- nt |
