commencement speaker Munich University Arranges Exchange With Utah State The University of Munich Germany will host 30 USU students beginning in March 1961 President Daryl Chase announced the cooperative study program Thursday He said “The University program is open to students of universities and colleges other than Utah State University but the program is an outgrowth of an exchange of professors between the Munich University and ourselves” Dr Marion L Nielsen head of the language department and Dr Datus M Hammond head of zoology entomology and physiology at USU spent the 1955-5- 6 year at Munich Dr Werner Leidl of the University of Munich staff came to USU during the 1958-5school year The Rector (president) of the University of Munich extended the invitation for USU students to study in Germany after Dr Leidl had returned fiom USU Dr Nielsen will head the USU 9 IN TODAY'S program in Germany and will accompany the students selected for the program who will leave next spring for Munich Generally only junior and senior students will be accepted for the special 'program Third quarter sophomores may be considered if they have a high scholastic standing Dr Nielsen said “We prefer that student applicants have at least five quarters of training in German” The special training program was organized by USU in cooperation with German faculty members and regular lectures at the University of Munich under the direction of Dr Nielsen Study tours in Germany Austria and Italy will be part of the program A committee of representatives from several departments at USU has planned the program and students in sciences social studies or humanities may enroll Dr Nielsen explained Other committee members are 'LIFE Since most staff members will be busy with final examinations next week today’s issue will be the final STUDENT LIFE for the 1959-6- 0 school year In the final issue a new student column for next year is previewed on page two which will give various
