have they witnessed a play like ‘‘Stalag 17” a comely melodrama in three acts Last night the audience saw Sigma Thi Epsilon members present a drama that took one back to the year 1941 to a prison camp Student Joins Forces With Payette Fire Fighters Joining the ranks of the forest fire fighters is a Utah State graduate who has done extensive research on use of helicopters in fire control The University student is joining the staff of Payette National forest headquarters at Council Idaho James Murphy has been appointed assistant ranger but will fce on temporary duty assignments to Washington D C and the Forest Service Equipment Development center in Arcadia Calif J Whitney Floyd head of forest managemnt at Utah State said Thursday For several summers Murphy has trained and supervised crews for helicopter operations on fires in California and Idaho This summer he will direct helicopter operations on the Payette His graduate thesis dealt with justification for use of helicopters on fires His findings indicate that helicopter use makes possible tre- mendous savings in suppression costs over equal protection provided by more conventional methods For his efforts in helicopter use research at USU Murphy received a Superior Performance Award for scientific achievement from the U S Forest Service and a $200 award He has been an honor student at USU a member of
