Show 2 — STUDENT LIFE OCTOBER LITTLE MAN Editorials 5 1956 ON CAMPUS by Dick Bibler Former Ag Dean Gains Honor Agenda Occasionally we hear reports of one of the Utah State alumni attaining some degree of prominence or possibly receiving some important position But it is seldom that Utah State has a former student faculty member dean of engineering and president of the alumni association all combined in one person who is a candidate for the governor of a state But George Dewey Clyde has accomplished this rare feat A candidate for the governor of the State of Utah Mr Clyde graduated from Utah State with the class of 1921 and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi He was a faculty member for a number of years and served as Dean of the School of Engineering from October of 11)36 to January 1943 Mr Clyde has been active in alumni events since leaving the college and is now president of the alumni association and a member of the board of REUNION returned missionaries who labored in the British Reiser missionlield are invited to attend the reunion which will be held at 160 University Street University ward Salt Lake City It will be held Saturday Oct 6 at 9:30 pm All SUDAGS A meeting of the Sudags club will be held today (Fri day) in the UB The group will then go up the canyon for an k outing The outing will be and transportation will be furnished All transfers from CSU or Dixie and Southern Utah residents are invited to pot-luc- trustees Utah State can well be proud of this former Aggie attend Traffic Rules Need Be Studied More cars are on campus this year than ever be- fore but our traffic rules and regulations are changing very little It seems that the rules and restrictions the buildand grounds department are instituting only serves ing to make the problem worse Our parking lot is a much needed improvement and llie entrance on the north side helps considerably to alleviate the early morning situation but a traffic jam results every morning on the south side of the parking lot where only one entrance seres the whole side Although several drivers have begun to use the east entrance (thus conflicting with cars coming from the east) it would have been well to have made an entrance on the southeast corner to help take care of the traffic from the south Opening of the road in front of the library is a big step forward but its effect is cancelled out by the closing of the road in front of the fieldhouse to one-wa- v traffic The new one-wa- y street does not seem to be imthe traffic conditions on campus and it certainproving ly seems that haing traffic moving freely along such a major campus road would facilitate the movement of campus traffic Our campus traffic board has been working the past few years to help correct this unfortunate situation but they should become better organized and try to help correct this ever increasing traffic situation Student Life Utah State College Founded Editor 1902 Val Hess Business Manager Joanne Tucker Friday Daily Editor Associate Editors JoAnn Slebcrs Tom j0nes Rod Pulley Rm Amos Sports Editor Society Editois LaRaine Marx Lnotte Richards Photographer Arnold Thayer Circulation Manager Myron Staff Reporters -- Eva Carling E G Peterson Jr Doug Wallace Olnev David Patterson Sally Whipple Wangsgard ElRay Pedersen Myron Hahn and Swenson Advertising Staff— Keith McClellan ersen Printed Loretta Hales Harvey Brady ElRy and A1 Kowaiewski Hahn Hall Judy Paul Ped- during the school vear by the Associated Students at Utah State College Office Room 213 of UB Phone 100 ext 158 Entered as second class mail matter September 1908 at Logan Utah under the act of March 2 1870 Acceptance for mailing at special rate of postage is in accordance with postal laws and regulations Subscription rates: $180 per year cr $ GO per quarter $2 out of United States semi-weekl- y This is when th’ coach ran out on th’ field for a few words with the referee Letter To The Editor Student Writes Spirit Gripe To the Editor: You can lead a horse to the studentbody by either spontaneously or not at all If it doesn’t exist it simply means that the people from whom it should come don't care to have it A side interest in the team and the games yes But not worth half of the front page in the studentbody petus wa- ter but you can't make him drink Trite but in this case true The pep rally comment that appeared in the October 2 Student Life struck me as being unwarranted Football spirit is a small part of studentbody spirit and it is not ingrained in people through sneering editorials It is a common feeling given im- - Why hold a football team sendoff as a standard by which to measure people who don’t want it? I think that the poor turnout has a positive rather than a negative significance It simply showed that students considered other tilings more deserving of their attention at the time This is nothing to be ashamed of What spirit there ever was at Utah State will during the year offer itself in real and constructive channels The students’ obligation will then be to see that these channels are kept open ALLEN RUBIN TALENT SHOW Applications are open for all students who would like to participate in the first Student Talent show whirh will be held Wednesday Oct 10 Deadline for applications will be Tuesday ALPHA LAMBDA DELTA An Alpha Lambda Delta meeting will be held Tuesday at 12 noon in the Commons Lounge with all members urg- ed to be in attendance Initiation ceremonies will install all members who have not been initiated and a business meeting will be held — o— TALENT ASSEMBLY The annual freshman talent assembly will be held Tuesday at 11 am in the Union ballroom Everyone is urged to attend and hear some of the talent in the freshman class EDUCATION All students interested in becoming members of the Student Education association are invited to contact any of the student officers They are De n Vaughn Peterson Dixie Genae Erickson Ann Vest Helen Blood and Marcia Hal-gre- Crawford With the World Series now in progress many students are finding it hard to concentrate both on the game and class An with a engineering major pocket-size- d radio ans- wered his professor’s mathematical question with “Two outs one man on sir” Across The Quad Professor Finds Mails Letters One Aggie student can final- ly report that he lor she) has found a human college professor This week a student lett two letters in the Agricultural Science building room 105 Before leaving the room after class at 10 am the professor was making his daily check for lost materials hoping to find dimes etc dropped from student's pockets He found two letters and mailed them for the student The student by now has probably hunted frantically for the letters and writ- - ten them again Anyway some body is getting some mail — o— After an hour or so too many in the local bar (lounge?) An underclassman returned to his room and sat dizzily on the edge of the bed After sitting upright while the room spun for about 20 minutes the student finally came out from his dense fog and mumbled something to his roommate in the effect of “Let’s see was I going to bed or getting up!” |
