Show STUDENT 6 f 7& Road Trip Tough Ags Go Winless 65-5- demonstrated marked improvement over their lackadaisical showing against Utah University several days before That Wyoming wins on their home floor is pretty well taken for granted by other teams But throughout the conference the Farmers started out last Friday night’s encounter as if they were going to upset tradition For when the first quarter ended they led 9 15-- At this point Wyoming’s scoring attack started to function Holding the Ags to 1 point and scoring 9 themselves the boys 6 from Laarmie moved ahead midway in the second period - A long shot by Hull in the third quarter moved the Staters ahead 3 once again But that was the end of things for the Aggies Wyoming sparked by Harry Jorgenson and Jim Mulvehal zoomed to a 7 lead at the third quarter mark to which they added 19 more points in the fourth 4 quarter to win Bob Ilartbertson and Bart 18-1- 34-3- 46-3- 65-5- Johnson W'ith 17 and 13 points respectively were once again the standouts for the Aggies Also Cordell Brown in holding Wyoming’s Bill Sharp to a meager 5 points turned in a sterling performance "Green Eyes” By GLENN PETERSON In losing to the Colorado A & M Rams last Saturday night in Ft Collins the Utah State Aggies found themselves firmly embedded in last place in the conference cage standings Meeting this year with results tantamount to the ones they met with in their trek East across the mountains last year when they were downed by both Wyoming and Colorado A & M the Aggies are now the possessor of 68-G- O a 0-- 3 worst called games that has ever been their misfortune to play in The referee’s reversed their decision twice in the game (a rarily that heretofore was a thing for numfairytales) and called any while ber of fouls on the Aggies they were on offense which is also very unusual At one crucial point near the end of the game with the Rams leading by three points Pat Dunn drove in and Tanked one for the Ags Both ref’s blew their whistle One ref signaled the shot was not good ana gave Dunn two free throws at the foul line Just before he was ready to shoot his tosses the other ref questioned the call because he had called another violation The ref’s held a conference and decided that palming the ball had been called before the other foul was called or the shot had been made To top it off a foul was called on the Aggies and the A&M player sank the two charity tosses to put the Coloags five points ahead in the closing minutes of play Had the usual procedure been carried out the Aggies provided the two free throw's were made w'ould have been one point behind and in a good position to win the ball COPE Christensen Unable to maintain their first quarter 15-- 9 lead the Utan State Aggies lost their second consecutive conference game of the season last Friday night over at Laramie to the Wyoming Cow4 boys Although they lost the Aggies 1954 PORTS Aggie “shock troopers” will be ready Thursday If the first fire begin to falter If not the second five will put on their usual show before the game and at halftime Marlin Shields Martel Beeton Don “Pocketknife” Wortley Boyd Adams and Ivan By GLENN PETERSON 14 TEVE’S rr&tad&rf £if& 9 LIFE JANUARY record win-lo- ss However Aggie hopefuls seeing that their favorites are showing more hustle and improvement with each game are placing their trust in the possibility that the Ags will ricochet with an upward climb to third place similar to the stunt performed by last year’s team after getting off to a dismal start With center Dennis Steuhm stuffing the hoop for 25 points for the evening the Rams jumped off to a huge 19-- 7 first quarter lead which they were able 2 to maintain for a margin at halftime Retaliating though in the third period the Farmers scored 23 35-2- points while holding the opposition to 13 But the Ags’ second half surge wasn’t enough The Rams started connecting once again to win and stay abreast of Wyoming as leaders of the Skyline Eight casba race for the Aggies Outstanding were Pat Dunn and Bob Harbert-so- n They both scored 17 points UTAH STATK K f pf p 5 1 3 11 Johnson 4 0 2 8 Brown COTO K AA M f pf p Klnard 2 0 Caylor 2 TOP QUALITY GASOLINE 3 4 115 More than one lesson was learned by the basketball squad on their recent trip to Laramie and Ft Collins First the team learned to a large extent how the ball bounces and second they learned they have to watch Bill Hull when he wanders off to watch pinochle games because he becomes spellin that bound while engaging tireless sport It seems that on the train home from Ft Collinsf Hull because of nothing better to do wandered off into the next car where some men from the University of Montana basketball team who happened to be on the same train were engaged in a hot game of pinochle Hull started talking and watching and seemingly lost track of all time or cars or something As it happened the train pulled Into a station and the Utah State car was taken off the original train and switched onto another When Bill finally decided he better go back to his own car he disthat a covered with dismay club-ca- r had been switched into it’s place Horrified Hull jumped off the train just in time to see the train the rest of the team was on pull out of sight in the distance Stranded Bill caught the next train and arrived in Logan just behind the rest of the team It still puzzles me how something as large as Hull could be lost 'without being missed In the Aggie-Colorad- ’ game Oh well!!! Last week we batted seven out for the conference games The only miss was New Mexico’s victory over the Utah Redskins of eight in our predictions and an With added fervor on the record 875 accuracy line here is the way we see them for this week THURSDAY— BYU over USAC at Logan Colorado A&M over Denver A&M o Denver game the Aggies saw one of the 0 0 10 Adam 0 0 0 0 Beeton 0 0 0 0 Booth 2314 10 60 lTtah State Colorado A&M FRIDAY— Utah over Montana at Missoula Gregory 0 2 0 2 0 0 0 0 Stuehm 3 7 1 25 Hibbard 10 2 2 Betz 7 4 3 18 Bryant Cates Totals 7 19 13 16 at Missoula Wyoming over Denver at Den- ver New Mexico over A&M at Albuquerque 2 8 3 12 0 0 0 0 23 22 13 68 23 13 15—60 20—68 Free throws missed: Utah State— Johnson Hull 2 Harbertson A & M — Caylor 2 Gregory Stuehm 4 Betz By ROGER LARspv Varsity wrestlers have v working out this week in tion for coming season’s The team is scheduled to Brigham Young uni Provo on Saturday ' ' y 1 Noel Schvanevcldt is working the 123 lb weight divisio !'
