Show March 19 19-1- 8 THE STUDENT LIFE— 7- BY CHRISTOPHER Tracksters Ask: "What Can We Do? Where Shall We Go?" Contest 7Wfri? umv Event to Highlight In practically every sports circle at Utah State there are some g unsatisfied customers rise to numerous but not explosive subjects for sideline conversationalists But with the return of track and baseball activities which require much indoor training before weather permits outdoor grooming there arises a proverbial bombshell with the select athletic group — and their claims apparently are well justifi-Proper Training Ground Needed The matter of having an adequate indoor training site withirx Aggie fieldhouse was kindled when school began last fall and by now the flame is burning brighter In the original planning the fieldhouse was to be used primarily for basketball with the north section reserved for indoor football conditioning track workouts etc Such was the case for many years 'but today t instead of a respected sports emporium the fieldhouse has taken on a new complexion tinted with the poorest features of a dance hall a hard cement floor w hen it 'should be dirt and the rusty color of a bad injustice done to athletes at USAC is an absolute Without a second thought the Aggie half-acr- e t can units before be produced track necessity Shot putters high junipers and broad jumpers are not too badly hampered on the small sand strip—which has been home to some — in Uta£ fieldhouse but hurdlers 35 tracksters since work-intlike and can’t the shape and be ready to sprinters just ' compete with conditioned opponents WhatV the Use Ask Some? That in itself may explain why the Aggie track squad may be weak in the sprints come the latter part of April Training habits of track and field aspirants are surpassed by none and the fellows need plenty of space to work in But whert they are pushed aside in favor of a hapless dancing arena the Incentive to work and train for a championship is pierced The return of baseball as a conference sport only doubles the need for an equipped fieldhouse Can you possibly imagine such a fantastic thought of having a college baseball squad getting in trim for official competition A on the school’s dance floor? Well it’s being done at Utah State! It’s Not a Sport But Sportsmanship Counts! 'I Fair play and sportsmanship are requisites for a successful colseslege election campaign In view of the current poster-puttision at Utah State let no one be fooled by false pretenses Judge a candidate for ability experience and sound possibilities in the desired office Vote to make USAC a better college and such will be the case if you let your better judgment light the way ') to the polls!
