" ii - v 'MiP i) tically every department on the campus- - These courses range generally from lower division oasic courses to those of graduate caiiuer We are particularly concerned with the upper division and graduate students and consequently we are fortifying our course pro gram in these divisions However we are not neglecting the fact that many students lind it desirable and profitable to con- tinue their college work through four quarters of the year Particularly is this advantageous to students in certain fields who find it impossible to get all of the general background courses that they feel necessary in the course regular four-yeEach year the College brings into this region the most eminent educators in the country They are drawn from all of the great graduate institutions and over the years they have been an excellent stimulation and a profound influence in the development of our educational program ar in Utah It pleasure to invite students and teachers of the intermountain area to the 1938 Summer Session at the Utah State Agriculutral College which I am sure promises to be one of our best sessions Let me welcome you to the College this summer I am sure that it will be a most profitable educational period— James H Linford is a - Janies II Linford HEALTH EDUCATION Leonard B “Stub” Allison football coach at the University of California and C S “Hec” Edmundson basketball coach at the University of Washington will be the instructors at the twelfth annual summer school for coaches June 13 to June 17 inclusive at the Utah State Agricultural College according to E L “Dick” Romney director of the coaching school Allison is the first grid mentor from the Pacific coast area to attend the coaching school since Howard Jones lectured here years ago During the past tnree years nliison nas brougni California into the football spotlight and his season was concluded New Year’s Day with a smashing victory over Alabama in the Rose Bowl Edmundson makes his first appearance at the Logan School and brings with him the style of basketball Through the growing importance of hygiene health education and public health in the social and educational life of the natState Agricultural ion the Uh College during a special Summer Session program of courses in these fields according ta E G Carter head of the departis ment of public health and physiology at the college These courses will be of special interest to teachers school administrators social workers nurses heal- th officials and parents Recognized as one of the leading authorities in her field Dr Edna Watson Bailey head of the health education work of the department of education of the University of California will conduct the courses in school health programs and methods and materials in health education during the first three weeks of the Summer Session Dr Carter said- - (Continued on Page 3) fn A Dr Alexander Meiklejohn Dr Alexander Meiklejohn popular educator returns to the Utah State Agricultural College appearing on the Summer Session as a lecturer Dr Meiklejohn will long be remembered for his invigorating commencement address delivered at the 1937 exercises at the college and for his earlier appearance at a Summer Session Many requests have been received by college authorities to bring Dr Meiklejohn to Logan again At the present time he is Director of Social Studies for the city of San Francisco and prior to that time he was professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin Previous to that Dr Meiklejohn served for 12 years as president of Amherst College- Jones Supplementing this special work there will be several courses in Psychology and Education bearing on the problem of kindergarten and elementary education conducted by members of the resident staff of the College Personnel work in secondary (Continued on Page 2) He received his A B degree from Brown University in 1893 and two years later was awarded his A M In 1897 Cornell University presented him with his PhD He received an LLD- Continued on Page 4) -
