(continued on page two) ' ATTENTION Every Thursday from twelve o’clock to one a play hour will be the thing Coach Jensen will direct it All students are invit- ed to meet on the lawn at the time set “What time were the refreshments served at the Student Reception1 last briday night?” was asked of one who was there “Oh they were served at frequ- ent intervals all evening” said the pityingly And that tells the story of the party with regard to the fun Everybody had the time of their young lives—all evening although some summer school parties are said to resemble a voodoo bird with a serious case of malignant tetter when real spirit is taken into consideration And give a though to the attendance (although I don’t like that word ‘attendance’ in this case It The sounds to business-lik- e of Summer the Quarter majority students were out in their coolest most comfortable clothes —as is perfectly in accord with “Aggie Democratic Spirit” — and in their cheeriest most comfortable moods Nobody came with set lips and the grom determination “to have a good time” but all the same everyone had a pleasant evening and the Quarter was set off on its career of success to the strains of an orchestra that rivaled Joseph Smith’s of the New York Plaza Of course dancing was the main entertainment although a f ew novelties were introduced to make every one thoroughly acquainted with nverv one ehse Much credit is due the committee Coac1’ in charge Dr Linford Jenson and Miss Peterson for the splendid success of the evening Several parties are promised the students this summer and it is to he hoped that they will be as successful as the first one was o w w t Fiftyone Percent Increase in Registration Norton Address Students Mr Elmer C Clawson of Providence Utah and a graduate of the Harvard School of Business Administration has been appointed to the position of Instructor in business administration at the Utah Agricultural College according to a statement of President E G Peterson of tlm College Mr Clawson will begin his duties immediately as Instructor in Dr James H Linford director of the Utah Agricultural College Summer Quarter officially welcomed the summer school students urged them “to mal?e the College their 'home” and reported a surprising increase in the number of students registered at this Quarter in a brief address at the first student assembly held in the College Chapel last Friday Assistant State Superintedent E J Norton also talked to the assembly Dr Linford’s address took the form of a welcome in which he stated that the purpose of the Utah Agricultural College is to serve the people and that every part of the College is open to the student of summer school “We are proud to report a large increase both ip enrollment and in the number of courses open to summer school students” said the speaker Actual figures show that there' were fifty-on- e percent more students registered at the end of the first week than there were at the corresponding time in the 1920 Summer Quarter Registration will continue throughout the coming week and the total registration is expected to be increased materially “We note with satisfaction that many of the students here have registered for both terms of the Summer We expect many new Quarter students at the opening of the second term July 18 1921 and we are fully prepared for them with additional courses of study which will begin on the opening day The second term will make possible the attendance of people at summer school who were unable to attend during the first part of the Quarter”- concluded Dr Linford “Utah is one of the four states in the United States which requires the completion of one year of college work-iaddition Jo a standard high school course for all‘ prospective teachers” said Mr E J Norton in (Continued on Page 4) (continued on page three) Harvard Graduate Commerce Instructor - n |
