Show 2 man merchant and teacher immensely popular A general lecture on Utah’s resources proved short courses were offered to acquaint each man more fullv with the vocation in which he had become interested as a result of the' special lectures Sections were arranged in general forestry farming animal husbandry drainage horticulture education electrical insurance industry and grazing automobile industry banking and retail merchandising Over seven hundred men availed themselves of these special opportunities The College iound out by a canvass of the soldiers just which men had definite positions open to them and which had no positions in prospect Outside of Salt Lake City two hundred and fifty men had employment had miscellaneous work to which on farms One hundred and thirty-eigto return twenty-tw- o expected to go to school and five were to become men had employment salesmen Thus four hundred and twenty-on- e x no work in sight In had men assured them while one hundred ninety-sin had no prospective Salt Lake Citv one hundred and eighty-sever thirty-touhad hundred one while positions In Utah then and three hune demobilization had work after five hundred and fifty-fivIn addition to these lectures ht em-plovm- dred and eighty-thre- ent had none e Mr Kirkham immediately attacked the problem of finding work for these men He received letters from high schools throughout the State and from various asking for teachers from farmers desiring farm help schools all He to out letters sent asking for miscellaneous sources high with exmen their cooperation in securing work for the returned artillery cellent results the U A C jxlen of the 145th Attending Munoz By Rafael Ten members of the 145th I A of the famous Sunshine Division have regLtered for work in the various schools of the Utah Agricultural College They are trying to forget their army vocabulary and some of them have already learned to call a blouse a coat and instead of ‘goin’ to mess” they go to the Cafeteria Most of the men wore stripes in the Army and five of them were in the famous Regimental team which won the 40th Division championship in foot ball at Camp Kearny Battery C from the mountain the valley and the farm has the largest number of representatives at the College Their names are Corporal Carl Crookston a guard in the Regimental team Corporal Wendell Tliain a radio man Charles Jacques who not only made the boys get up in the morning but also called them for dinner shaved them and put them to bed and Bartell Jeppson once a mechanic and one of the most popular men in the battery There are two men from Headquarters Co and two from “A” and “IT batteries The Headquarters men are Rafael Munoz a former A C student once a radio corporal and Corporal Joe Maughan former IL V C star and a tackle on the Regimental football team "A” battery we have Sumner Hatch liason sergeant in the battery also a pre-w- non-co-Aggie and a football man and Corporal Nicholas B Crawford a “gas” B battery is represented by Sergeants Louis Falck gun section sergeant and Glen Dee supply sergeant two half backs in football These are the Utah Artillerymen You'can recognize them by their blue or gold stripe on the left arm the Sunshine on their left shoulder when in uniform and by their “hard boiled" appearance when in civilian attire ar m |
