Logan is represented by all of many religious denominations which welcome students to attend their Sunday schools and evening services Form a habit of spending in these places the time that you would otherwise spend in less profitable places Church going not only relieves the strain of school work but at the same time develops the spiritual side of one’s being thus resting the mind and body and at the same time completing the triangle that composes the being of a perfectly developed man or woman When you retire next Saturday night do so with the determination that you will arise early and go to Sunday school don’t be hired away by the passing pleasures of the streets Idleness leads to the pool rooms and other places of objectional pastimes Then comes the formation of bad companions hence the start is made that continues on and on until it is too late to return and you awake to the morbid realization of a life and wasted opportunities and in a last desperate struggle with mighty conscience you find that you are weakened mentally and physically and have not the dominating strength of spirituality to fall back upon for it has been left undeveloped mis-spe- nt o MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUV SHINES Some students think they haven’t accomplished much these first two weeks They have landed in Logan full of enthusiasm and instead of storing it up for the whole year want to blow it all otr the first month They wonder why so few older students are back and why classes do not all start together They should know that many old students have formed the bad habit of late registration a prac-'c- o tllat be choked oil by probably fines before the College is a year older The slow moving classes of the first few uays are the best possible foundation for the swifter pace that will come only no soon A student cannot be too well grounded in first principles and he ought to enjoy w’atching his instructors take uo at tlie same lesson in a different way each That is an excellent object lesson day hi pedagogy or a fine study in prof how’ever There are two phychology great resources for the student wi tii abundant leisure and they are tw’o of the best things that the College has to offer One is the library with its wealth of magazines novels and reference books It is a liberal education to learn how’ to use such a place and the cry of most students is that they haven’t time enough for library w’ork If you are interested in cooking study the cooking magazines and cook books and make a private collection of your own to bestow on some friend at Christmas You can do the same in any subject And then besides there is the College farm the campus and the museums all full of interest to men of w’ide awake minds Prepare for coming botany and forestry by studying the trees on the campus How many of them grow in your home towrn and how’ many are newr to you? Why are they all tagged in Latin? The w’onder and questions of new? students should never cease at least not for many weeks Study the barns and the stock the orchards and the greenhouses the collections in the museums and the woman’s building Write home all about them or better still if you have a tincture of journalism in your being write a letter for the home paper to publish Now’ are the glorious moments to enjoy leisure The evil days are coming when you will long for a p let-u- o Nowr is your opportunity — get busy If the making of a successful man or woman is in you now’ is your chance to prove it I)o not wait for the examinations to show' your ability a better w’ay is to show’ it by your daily work Do your part now’ get interested in your work and w’hen “exams” come you wont need to “cram” Do w’hat you can for student activities get into athletics contribute to Student Life be a “mixer” you will enjoy life all the more There is only one way to go through school and that is — get the most out of it Moreover take an active part in the Stu-dBody organization it is the best in the western country If you don’t like the way things are going get up and tell the student body so — its your privilege and it is a mucji better way than to “knock” nt o T w’as in the College drill last night when twenty persons got up and left the table” “What w’as the matter?” “They were through eating” “No Madge dear” said the frugal husband “I shall not take you to the theatre or to supper or even buy you a dish of ice cream You see you are a qualified voter now and I might be accused of trying to influence your vote”— Ex |
