On the first play from scrimmage, Mike threw to Hopkins, but Hopkins found that the ball had neither arms nor legs; it was close enough that it should have given the defense religion. Two 36-0- , plays later Mike hit Don for the TD and from then on the Juniors had little trouble. On the Freshman team Bill Whorton looks like the man to watch for end runs and long passes. Also, last week the Sophomores beat the Seniors. John Hattonn Threw two TDs to Scott Iverson. The Sophomores looked good in their opener against the Seniors. They are a fast team with a lot of fire. The Seniors showed that they can give anyone in the league a rough time as they battled to 6- tie for the first half. Outstanding players for this game for both teams were: John Hatton, Scott Iverson, Steve March, and Matt Brown, Sophomores, and Pepe Reyes, Dick Balderston, and Tex Norwood. Last Saturday the Olympic Games opened. In the first day of competition the American Swimming team got to show off a little muscle by having three of its members break the old Olympic record for the 100 meters freestyle. There were 12 events that took place on opening day, but only one gold medal will be awarded and that being in where the Japanese are favored. This year I am picking the United States to win the Olympics with 37 gold medals, 28 silver and 35 bronze; with the .USSR taking second with 32 gold, 25 silver, and 25 bronze; and there will be a battle for third, fourth and fifth. For those of you that do not know how many medals and how many athletes compete. There are around 6,600 athletes from 99 countries trying to win 499 medals. The events range from track and field to horse races to one man yacht races. The Olympics should be something that the whole nation should be interested in. Bantam-weightlifti- Utah vs Colo.
