Class picnic Jr' -- Several new staff and faculty 1964-6- 5 appointments for the school year have been announced by Dr. W. Fred Arbogast, President. Dr. Thomas Fuhr has been appointed Dean of Students and Instructor in Education. Dr. Fuhr comes to Westminster from a teaching assignment at Bellflower High School, Bellflower, California, following years of ministerial and Christian education experience. A Presbyterian minister, Dr. Fuhr has earned a B.A. in English from Hastings College, a B.D. from Union Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in education from Columbia University. Assuming the position of Administrations Counselor will be Mr. Alden Roach, a member of the 1964 graduating class of Westminster. Nightingale Library In Process; Scheduled To Be Completed Soon Westminsters new W. T. Nightingale Memorial Library is a welcome addition to the campus. This modern, attractive, and functional library, now under construction, will be ready for occupancy during the early part of this school year, with facilities for 50,000 volumes. It will be air conditioned throughout and it will Include two large conference rooms, an audio-visu- al Mr. Frank J. Cox, formerly a with Thiokol financial analyst Chemical Corporation Brigham' City, Utah, has been named Business Manager. He will be responsible for all the colleges business operations Including purHe is a 1959 graduate chasing. of Montana State University and has done graduate work at Utah State University. Mr. Victor A. Davis, a former Thiokol Chemical Corporation executive from Brigham City, Utah, has been named director of public center for storage and previewing of films and microfilms, and other visual aids. The new library is named after the late William T. Nightingale, well known Salt Lake City and Intermountain business and civic leader. This was made possible by a very generous capital gift to Westminster from the Mountain Fuel Supply Company as its tribute to Mr. Nightingale, who was the past president and active chairman of the Board of Mountain Fuel at the time of his death this summer. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Westminster College. Included in the overall plan will be an attractive lavatory-loung- e for the library staff, and a well appointed librarians office. The book and periodical stacks will be arranged to insure free access by students, with plenty of light and room for them to browse. One of the interesting innovations of this library, in keeping with He will also direct the public information phase of the Westminster Development Program and will edit the Utah Westminster. He Is a graduate of Drury College, Spring-fiel- d, Missouri, and has done graduate work at Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, North Carolina U., and Utah State University. He is a retired Army Lt. Colonel. Joining the faculty as uslStant professor of economics aua business administration is Mr. Peter A. Hofer. Mr. Hofer comes to Westminster from Friends University of Colorado, and a degree in law as well as several years of business experience. Mrs. Judith Powell has accepted an appointment as Instructor in Mrs. Powell comes to English. Westminster from a teaching M. A. degree in English from Indiana University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Jack Gifford from the University of Los Angeles, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Dr. Gifford holds a History. Ph. D. from the University of Cali- fornia. In addition to the three new faculty members Mr. Ronald from Sperry-Uta- h, has accepted the position of Head Li- De-Wa- al, brarian. its sleek lines, is that it wllT have no windows. The reference portion of the library will be entirely separated from the rest of the facilities to insure privacy. Sections of this library will be reserved for periodicals, with comfortable lounge furniture. |
