Show Page 4 The PARSON March 20, 1964 Eastern Montana Students, Athletes Express Opinions Over Lee Loss These are just a few of sentiments expressed around tthe campus abou Coach Lee from a few of the men who have played for him, and worked with him during his stay at Westmin- the ster College. When a door closes there is always another door open, and it seems that Mr. Lee has found the open door. As the door shuts on West minster, we see a fine gentleman and coach moving on to broader horizons, and a greater career which he cannot realize at Westminster. For a coach to be successful, he has to have something to coach, and Coach Lee has nothing to coach at Westminster. Eastern Montana is receiving a very capable and able coach, and will prosper by his contribution. Im sure that we will hear a lot about Coach Lee and Eastern Montana football as the time passes. Jack Buckley Coach Lee will do a fine job for Eastern Montanas athletic program. His personality and reputation will draw athletes to participate in his complicated but effective system. Luck isnt a necessary ingredient for any team that is directed by this very capable man. Gordon Brown Avaits by Marty Bernstein Westminster College, without a football team for two years, is now without a ball coach. Coach Robert E. Lee has left Westminster to accept a post in the same capacity at Eastern Montana in Coach Lee will certainly leave a mark at Westminster. His outgoing personality and cheerfulness and his keen interest in athletics will always add enthusiasm to people wherever he is. Coach Lee is unquestionably a donor to Westminster and to society. Steve March The record Coach Lee compiled at Westminster speaks for itself, but his qualities of leadership and sportsmanship need mentioning. Anyone who ever played under Coach Lee will benefit from his teaching in whatever he may do. He is a great coach and a great guy. We will all miss him. Wayne Murray Coach Lee is a great competitor. He will do a great job no matter where he goes. Westminsters loss is Eastern Montanas gain. Chris Segura Love and knowledge of sports are the basic ingredients of any great sportsman. Surely Coach Lee has both. I expect to see the Eastern Montana football team on top in the coming years. Coach Lee is a man with his own philosophies regarding football. It will be interesting to see his progress. He seems to have all of the needed qualifications and the ability to succeed. Dick Balderston Billings, Montana. He assumes the position of head football coach at Eastern beginning April 1. Coach Lee enjoyed a very succesful tenure at Westminster. He came here in 1960 from Northwest Community College in Powell, Wyoming. His Parson teams compiled a mark in his three year reign. A,fter the school dropped football in 1902, Coach Lee stayed on as an instructor in Physical Education. By the way, his 1962 Parson eleven won the District Seven championship by winning seven games, losing one, and tying one. Thus he goes to Eastern highly recommended. 14-10- -2 . ( Coach Bob Lee assumes new post as football coach at Eastern Montana after a very successful reign at Westminster. The desire to get back into football takes him away. by Marty Bernstein Open from: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. FINAL STATISTICS "Nothing Inferior for Your Interior" , It is always hard to say without getting sentimental. Losing Coach Bob Lee makes it even harder. The concensus of opinion around our campus is that a good man of his caliber is hard to find. Coach Lee has not only been an excellent football coach (remember the good old days?), but also a very able instructor, and just like everyone says, a real swell guy. His contribution to the success of the athletic department, and to athletics, in general, has been very significant. No one will miss Coach Lee more than Coach Richardson. Now Coach "Rich is without a tennis partner. Seriously, Coach Lee has been a great credit to our athletic program at Westminster College. We were lucky to keep him as long as we did, especially considering we dropped football. We are sure that Coach Lee will do a great job at Eastern Montana. All of us on The Parson, and everyone connected with athletics at Westminster wish him good-by- e well. Parson Coach Bids Adieu to Friends By Bob Lee I would like to say that the Frank Mendez STUDENT LOUNGE Lee Speaking about football, the loss of Coach Lee seems to be the final blow to the end of the sport at Westminster. We do not know enough about the "facts to do much but generalize here. We do think that a statement concerning future athletic policy at the college should be made public. Are we ever going to have football again? Are we going to have a baseball team this spring ? It is high time that all the facts be disclosed. We the students would like to know the administrations views on this very important matter. Athletics are and should be an integral part of any college. Athletics develop men and give the college a lot of publicity. If handled correctly, a lot of revenue can also be gained. I realize that basketball season is over. I just want to say in closing discussion about it in my column, that small college basketball won a big victory when Sav-o- n of Ogden defeated Wendover for the AAU title in Utah. Wendover was made up of three former Ute aces, Doug Moon, Spence Thurgood, and Dennis Couch, plus other of past seasons (the likes of Rowe, Aufderheide, Thomas, Allen, etc.) Stevens and Brown, made up of Parsons, lost by only two points to the Utes in the semifinals, and the next night, Sav-O- n dumped them. Sav-O- n was made up of Lyon and Sivulich of Weber State, Crump of Idaho State and other small college stars (exstar). Even though Bill Crow cept for Ted Smith, was our leading scorer all year, admittedly it was hard to "see him out there with Doug Moon on the same floor. But, Crow outscored Moon1 2 and proved to be Moons better. The results of this tournament have to ' be interpreted as a big victory for small college basketball. There just isnt that much difference! ex-Ut- es ex-US- U last five years at Westminster College have been the happiest years of my teaching and coaching career. I regret leaving very much, and I know that I will miss the students and fellow faculty members, and especially Coach "Rich. My family and I have grown to like Salt Lake City very much . Westminster is a fine school and I feel that with the present administration, has a fine future. I feel that the new administration really and truly wants to get back into collegiate football, and if everything goes well, this will probably be done in the next few years. Now that most of the old football players have gone or have graduated, I have felt a little lost around the campus. I think that the student body this year has acted the way one should act. The pep band, cheerleaders, and students have shown fine spirit at the basketball games. I hope that they keep this up and maybe even improve on it. This new job of mine at Eastern Montana, I feel, will be quite a challenge, and I hope that I can get the type of boys that played for me here at Westminster. If any of you are in the Billings area anytime, I would be glad to hear from you and visit with you. In closing, I would like to wish Westminster College and its athletic teams all the success possible.
