Mr. Henessey-cur-rentlruns Joe Hills House, otherwise known as St. Josephs Mission, on Post Office place in downtown Salt Lake City. The purpose of this institution is the care and feeding of transients. The speech was illustrated throughout by autobiographi- cal material. In explanation of his philosophy of pacificism and anarchism he stated that men cannot be forced to live decently by a government body, or by use of force. Men will live better lives if they are permitted to pursue their ideals without control. This philosophy, he explained, has led him into differences with the authorities, and has resulted in his arrest on several occasions. At the present time, the government has a $54 lien filed on past income tax which Annon Henessey refuses to pay. Mr. Henessey is what is considered a practiced Catholic, and assists at daily mass, in spite of his differences with the church on the point of hierarchial control. He believes that the organization is hot necessary but it is at the present time an evil which would be difficult to radicate. However in the future this y - fact will be accomplished. , 1 TUBE Cagers Keep Active FROM LEAD by Allan Burkhalter The Sophomores dropped to second place in the Intramural Bowling Tournament at Southeast Lanes on January 11. The frosh came from behind on Gary Houstons high game for the day of 192. Sophomore Tim Huie dolled a 191 game but it wasnt enough to overcome the frosh lead of five pins. In the meantime, Margaret Warren came out on top for the women with a game of 154 to help the seniors trim 18, Judeo - Christian religious tradition. It is of little value to just excoriate the ills of our day, unless we are willing to present at least the possibility of cure. Also, when we stand be- fore the magnitude of the problem, we tend to say that as individuals we are power-less- . This is just the attitude the proponents of the welfare state hope we will take, when in reality, there is something we can do. First, we must confess that no one individual or small group can change the entire course of human events at present. But in this acknowledgement, we must stand firm again in historys lesson that any small group of concerned people can change history within a given area. Remember how 11 frightened men on a mountaintop saw the source of their strength return to heaven but, by their efforts, the whole of Western culture was changed Christs life on earth ended with only the legacy of 11 frightened but dedicated men . Thus we can, and must, within the limits of our own communities, churches, civic organizations and our own families begin to awaken concern for the awareness of the dangers which threaten our freedom. Do not try to convert the world. Work within the limits of your own sphere of influence. Secondly, before we can really become effective apostles of freedom, we must know what freedom is and 3. slow-startin- 42-3- 4 67-6- 0. 40-2- 62-6- 3 78-6- minster hit 30 7. shots from the field while Carroll hit only 29. This is the work of churches, bar associations, educational forums, medical societies. Yes, this is the work for the P.T.A.s, bridge clubs and social circles. This we must all do before the boredom of dependence so enervates us and our children that we surrender our freedom for the cage of security. A super government, even with the air of benevolent paternalism, soon develops into a merciless keeper of the cage which robs us of our freedom. This is one of historys undeniable lessons. Learn it well lest we, like Russias imprisoned millions, some day look back in anger, look at the present in disgust, and look forward in despair. Freedom is divine in origin and human in expression. Freedom is not easily won and not maintained without concern. UBB&BY dom. what threatens freedoms discontinuance. You and I cannot defend something we do not know and we cannot protect against an enemy we do not understand. Professional groups of all sorts must lift themselves from their profes- sional isolation which concerns itself only with the mysteries and vagaries of its own selfish interest. You must look at the world around to see the culture within which you live; to understand the needs of your fellow creatures; and to form effective alliances with men of goodwill who seek to preserve individual integrity and human free-- by Rod Grunwald Over the holiday season the Parsons season record went to three wins and thirteen g caglosses. The ers have continually been basplaying tough second-hal- f ketball but it has yet to pay dividends. In the last two games of the holiday series Westminster played Western Montana at Dillon and Carroll College at Helena, dropping both games but looking much improved over previous games since Westminster vs. Regis on December 17. At Western the Parsons were down and managed to at half-tim- e strong opposition to provide a team which the Parsons beat twice in Payne Gymnas-- ' ium earlier in the season until Western finally surged ahead to stay, beating the Parsons Big Gary Bliss 24 in dumped points and was Chris Segura and helped by Tom Johnson with 12 and 11 points respectively. The same story applied at Carroll College as Westminster was on the bottom 9 but gave a fine at half-tim- e the chase until warning minutes of the game when Carroll pulled it out and finished on the long end, Gary Bliss was once again the top scorer with 16 points as five Parsons finished in double figures. Jim Morris hit for 15 points and Ray Gibbons, Jerry Adams, and Chris Segura hit for 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively. The big difference in the game from a statistical outlook were the fouls. West- by Alan Burkhalter In last weekends action, Regis at Denver bombed Westminster by a score of ,78-4Gary Bliss was high again with 13 points. This loss leaves the Parson quintet with only two more road trips to face on this extremely rough schedule. Coach Richardson, in looking ahead to coming action, feels that, with only the two road trips, the Parsons can be more at ease in seven of the next ten game?. There are more rough games yet to face the Parson crew, however. Tomorrow night, after a weeks rest without a game, they meet the 11th ranked small college team in Arizona State College. The game will be played in Flagstaff. On Monday, the 21st, they travel to Las Vegas to be met by a tough Nevada Southern University squad. The Parsons will return to Salt Lake City for a seven game home stand before traveling to Durango to meet Fort Lewis A & M, which is a newcomer to the four-yea- r college field only this year, for Westminsters seafinal game of the son which ends in the middle of February. Coach Richardson has shown considerable brightness in the fact that many newcomers have had a chance to gain valuable playing experience so far this season. This added experience plus playing some home games will be a major factor in the coming games.
