Tom Metcalf, the new Freshman class president, gave a brief speech of welcome to all who came, and he thanked Bob Branch for all he had done for the Freshmen as their president last Participating in the ceremony will be Sue Loomer, president of Sigma Pi Alpha; Malcolm Reynolds, as Grand Master, Homer Ng, as Marshall; and Lee Leong, Secretary. Celebrates Sadie Hawkins Day With respect to the order of call for induction, it is ex- pected that calls will continue to be filled s beby tween the ages of with the oldest going first. Driggs, chairman of the Honors Program Committee that Ed Jones has been selected for the title of Westminster Tutor. Other students who have been granted this distinction are Pete Bjorkland, Larry Aleamoni, Stewart M. Hanson, and Robert J. Stansfield. The students who merit privilege of the title Westminster Tutor are selected from Honors Seminars by the Honors Program Committee. Also, pillows and cushions are supposed to be brought for sit- There are many things that I appreciate about this schools administrative policies and - does, how- ever, carry with it a recommendation to the college ad- accompanying ef- forts. But like nearly every other college student, I have certain complaints about the administration also. This particular complaint which needs to be mentioned now has not really become necessary until just this year. . I am referring ,to the responsibilities of both the administration and the students in connection to the relationship not only between the students and the Deans of-- f fice, but also between the administration and the parents. Yes, it is true that the parents have released some of their authority to the administration by placing some responsibility . for their students welfare into the hands of the administration. Now, where should the main expression of confidence be exhibited; between the parents and the administra-- ' tion or between the students and the- - administration. They're the ones that are having to live together. dont-havIn many cases we this confidence at Westminster. The students have ting . been willing to admit their shortcomings, but we also realize that the administration should accept their portion of the blame. They certainly arent creating any feelings of confidence when they scold young adults, or write letters to parents to reor when port they draw conclusions about a students character when these conclusions are based on second-hanreports and mis-behavi- d out-date- impres- ht d, sions. The responsibility that the Deans office owes to the students needs more consideration that it has apparently been given.. If . they, dont tattle-tale- , and ..whisper about us, Im sure we wont about . . e them. In order to be eligible for membership, a student must be studying in at least his second year of a foreign language. The decorations were red and white, centered around a Valentines Day theme. A combo entertained everyone with a variety of dance music. TOM METCALF was elected the new class president in February The annual A.W.S. sponsored Sadie Hawkins dance was held Wednesday, Feb- ruary 21 Lounge. in the Student Participants wore costumes, depicting the characters D o g p a t c h, U. S. A. and Doug Mead received awards at the best iressed couple. Marrying Sam, alias Tuck Hubbard, was on hand to accommodate the majority of the couples. Music was provided by Smoky Gibbon's band.
