The convention schedule began Wednesday night of the 3rd with a banquet and keynote speech held at the Bellevut Hotel where most of the delegate, were staying. The speaker for tha. evening was lecturer and autho. Dr. Milton Mayer who spoke ol the subject, Leadership, Today anc Tomorrow. Dr. Mayer picture, quite a pessimistic view of our dist ination as prospective leaders ii our American society. President Bil Slemko of Whitworth College ii Spokane (this past years President of PSPA) retaliated the next day ir. his speech by presenting a mori optimistic view based on hard wort and wide vision. Vice-Preside- nt, It was quite evident that nearlj all 200 delegates from the Pacifk and Intermountain states enjoyec their stay in the big city ver much. Besides the scheduled meetings and meals, the delegates had an opportunity to see as much of San Francisco and its color that could be crowded into three days. Faculty Survey by W. U. Smith Your Parson staff has just completed a survey of faculty on the issue: how well are students responding to teachers? The purpose of the survey was to pass on to the Administration the most valuable contributions made by professors to student motivation and stimulation. The validity and reliability of the test will be left for t, analysis by armchair psychologists. Certain patterns are however. Indistinct speech, nervousness, not forceful, ind dictatorial attitude ranked high on the student complaint list. We may generalize by saying that teacher-studecommunications constituted the major problem. On the whole, faculty was rated very highly by the student body. Of 457 surveys returned, high marks in poise and teacher enthusiasm, professors were consistently awarded. 350 surveys rated professors as superior. The composite profile of faculty will be submitted to the Academic Council, and will be on display in the Parson office for anyone who would like to peruse it. It seems to be a truism in psychological testing that the only consistently reliable evaluation is peer by peer. Students can analyze students far better than professors, faculty can rate faculty far better than administration, and adminis-:rator- s are constantly evaluating each other, in part to see vhat chances for promotion are to be had. A poll of faculty by acuity on Westminster's campus would show a very inter-2stin- g composite profile. Perhaps our esteemed and professors have this much initiative. evi-len- ROLLER SKATE for fun and health HYGEIA SWIMLAND 1208 East 21st South Phone IN 6-86- 11 nt wr" n1 WVV . ..
