Show REVIEWS CANADIAN WINTER SPORTS . . . (Continued from page 1) I know, you are more interested in basketball, but there are some other things going on in this small town. There is a full slate of musical events lined up for Salt Lake during the months of December and January. First is Westminsters own Girlts Glee Club presenting the annual Mystery for Christmas. Frederic Dixon will be repeating his Chopin Memorial Concert this coining Tuesday, the 13th. If you prefer chorale work then you will be on hand for the combined Utah Symphony and University choruses when they present Verdis Requiem, Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10. During the Christmas holiday season, Dec. 28, the Symphony will present anoth- their stones, and ability shows when a player puts his curling stone exactly' where the skip wants it. After the skips have thrown their stones the score is added up (scoring would be rather lengthy to explain, and this arti- cle doesnt allow that much space), and the players go through the same process only throwing their stones back to the other target. A game usually consists of playing to each target five times, the winner being the team that has the highest score at the end of that time. Most of the skill of the game is concerned with the reading of the ice. As most people know, it is next to impossible to make ice perfectly level. The players have to be able to tell what is going to happen to a stone when it is thrown along a certain place, and also how much weight he has to throw into a stone to get it to the desired position. Through the process of elimination, by playing other teams, the best team of each province is selected, and represents their province in the world series of Curling held in one of the large Canadian cities. A tobacco firm in Canada pays the expenses of all the members of each team for this series. The competition is very keen, and the team which wins the series is as highly regarded by the Canadian people as the winning team of the baseball world series is regarded by the people of the United States. The greatest success a curler (the name given to a player) can achieve in curling is to represent his province in this ra (Continued from page 1) cents for evening shows.
