| Show OTH GRADE CLASS class 01 organization Deba debating tinz 2 A feature of the work the track meet As the eighth grade notes appeared in the news before we ve despic to give the public an idea of our work this winter we regard it as nery ery successful especially oil oa tire hie part of the teachers teacher mr air kelly sli sir hoopes and sir mr larsen to whom is due a great deal of credit this season of school has been very quiet from a social standpoint or an enthusiastic one but the fires ot of progress and improvement are burning in ill tile the hearts of 0 the students As a class we have felt to grieve because our parents have not met with us it if we could learn the cause for this neglect wo we would try to remedy it is as a i fisit isit from them would greatly encourage us about tire the first important occur ence was the class organization the officers chosen were ira larsen president Ster sterling lInZ Bl madson adson vice dent grace mcmaster Mci laster secretary and treasurer an amusement committee was appointed with ira larsen as chairman assistants olive jensen lilly bywater louise berg stanley madsen and william drown brown james christensen was appointed yell master with john durt burt assistant for class colors we chose red and gray later we organized a debating club the next thing ot of interest was the Hal halloween loeen party held at the school rooms in the whittier block from then their until the of february we attended strictly to studies when we entertained the high school in the ard 3rd rd ward hall ball professor miller of salt lake city dr geo F r harding and dr it A pearse each favored us with an interesting te and instructive lecture mr feather Veather stones talk on japan arid and air john mathias Mat hlas talk on australia nid aid wl fid its bleg those countries we have had several debates among ourselves which we have found very beneficial A short time ago we ire chal ledged the high school on the question resolved that the japanese should not be allowed to enter A morlean schools the high school chose the affirmative while the ath grade took the negative the judges decided two to one in favor of the negative the high school must have been chagrined over this defeat as they sent us a challenge to debate resolved that it wh be e lest best to aa ailt arizona and new mexico as beep ep arate states we tool took the affirmative this was to lie be held in the and 2nd ward hall for the public the high school however repented their rash act arid and decided not to debate our boys are practicing for the coming track meet to bo be held in this city ou on the dinst we expect them to carry away the first prizes as there here is no reason why they should not some of the best athletes in the city are members ot of the eighth grade this week arid and part of last we have h live been taking the state third quarterly ejai examination ili nation |
