Involved in the scene besides the bull, that is were Paul' Newman, plays Butch Cassidy and Katherine Rossi who portrays the girl friend of Sundance, who is played by Robert Redford. The bull was real, no doubt about it. Some 1,800 pounds of muscled beef on the hoof, charging towards you as the camera starts to roll, cannot be. anything but real. And a real danger because bulls, if they are actors at all, are piethod actors they act like bulls and when they charge, they charge. Anyway, here was the situation. Paul, as Butch, was downing around on a bicycle, and while riding it backwards, showing off for Katherine, ensconced in a hayloft Window, rides it into a fence, breaking the fence and releasing the bull enclosed by it ' .
