Take the football championship as examples: Team A is a young outfit and is scheduled to play veteran teams early in the season. Naturally, the youngsters figure to lose so they are shot out of the conference race in the first few Weeks. All thats left to show for their improvement is a possible share of a runner-uspot. was It laughable a year ago last fall, when the WAC football race came within a missed field goal of winding up in a five-wa- y tie for first place. This fall the race was about as confusing. A conference football championship shouldnt be settled on anything less than six games. Even the old Skyline minimum of five games caused confusion. A basketball schedule should have at least 14 games to decide the championship. Regardless of how far we wander, regardless of how big league the climate may be and regardless of how saturated our sports program may appear, the drums beat, the cymbals smash and the bugle of patriotism sounds loudly when the Old School comes to town. The team did not play the next day and could easily have given us 30 minutes of its precious time.
