Show :u .J I Mitchum Twixt Justice arid Duty Man-in-Midd- A provacative theme is presented in the new Robert hptchum film, Man in the Middle, which was made in .England- and on location in India. The picture is based on The Winston Affair, a novel ' Citizen Tom Paine and Spartacus, among others. Tells of Struggle It details a mans struggle between his sense of justice and his loyalty to a cause more Imposing than any individual. He must decide whether a murderer, bigot and psychopath is entitled to a fair trial or be railroaded to a conviction because of national and international pressures. The rigid background of the military makes the situation even more explosive. d Mitchum Defends Portraying this man sitting on a powder keg, Robert Mitchum is a lieutenant colonel asked to defend the murderer, Lieutenant Winston, played by the usually comic Keenan Wynn. France Nuyen provides the love interest as a Eurasian nurse who keeps prodding Mitchums conscience. Barry Sullivan is the commanding general who wants and needs a conviction, and special guest star Trevor Howard enacts the role of a cynical psychia- trist. Howards part is a far cry from his more recent roles the imperious martinet, Captain Bligh, in Mutiny on the Bounty and the brutish drunk, Morell, in Sons and Lovers.
