in the remarks made by the breth have addressed us during this confer enbe ente thus far for the speakers have all treated upon subjects that are calculated to in te restus as a people all people that I 1 have acquaint with interest themselves in something and so it is i a with us we interest ourselves in such subjects aa as are most moat con peni gental genial arro arto to our oar feelings and dispositions and that hare have been brought up before us ui for our consideration are subjects that we cannot pass by with indifference and do our beltes beites selves justice if we look at these improve mints dents that are before us in a point of I 1 th that atwould would be aa as the world generally do dor doy aird think that e will benefit others more than we to co ourselves anti and that we must have an eye single to the almighty dollar and work for foi own glore we hall hail make ourselves the rasi rast miserable mib mig erable heirigs beings upon this earth and we bhail shall have nobody to blame but our own dear so solves ives but if we do that which is pointed out for us to do having an eye single to the welfare and advancement of the kingdom of god upon the earth we shall all the time be doing that which is and will hereafter be for dolit oui oun our best est eat good in th s life and in anat which is if avi we desire to obtain the blessings of the ahn almighty t i in a temple prepared for that purpose if we esteem these blessing blessings ig to be of any importance and if we do not feel to do without them what should oe ne our policy and course in such a matter why I 1 would say let iet letus us build the temple in which we may receive ceiva our blessin blessings t s from the almighty we have no interest with other people we have nave a separate community and our interests are our eur own owe then hen tet let us build the temp a what ebat ehat shall I 1 say in regard to the tabernacle we can see at once that we can enjoy the coln coin como comi orta oita ot a liew kew itaw tabernacle wa we I 1 need the blessings of such a house at the present regent time if we e put it off when will it ee be built when that house is 13 built we can then er enjoy joy the benefits and blessings which it will afford the same principle may be applied to everything we vve take in band and with which we have to do whether it be to build a temple a tabernacle to send teams to the frontiers to gather the poor or to do any other work tb that a t is mul tul required red of us nothing that thai ia is required will b be p performed er formed until we go to work and do no something ething ourselves ours elves elies we have no other people to lean upon and therefore it remains for us to go to work and perform well our part I 1 in one respect we are highly favored that is ls we can have pointed out to us the work that should be performed and that will be acceptable in the sight of our heavenly father all the works that he requires us to perform are for our benefit and salvation seeing that this is is the case cannot we perform cheerfully that which ig is laid upon upon us I 1 think we shoud take courage and do all ive we do with a cheerful heart the work in which we are engaged is is to prepare us and to exalt ua us to enjoy the blessings that are promised to the righteous ia in this world and in that which is to come this thia ia is the view that I 1 take ot of these mat tera and I 1 believe that it is is the view generally entertained by all good brethren and big eis tere tern then let us go on cheerfully and harmoniously remembering that we are free to do good but that when one party moves I 1 in one way and another in a di Terent different one that prod produces udeA division lva lve are a people that profess to be the people ale of god and it if we are we cannot be divided viled for his bla people are always ones one ode and if we are one of course we will act upon the principle of oneness and in all things do as weare weara dictated working wording for that which will betor our best good othi for the present time ata aim and for the future I 1 know very well that thit chere are a great many people who speculate in regard to the fhe future and calca i lae at what is a to take place but BO so far tar as we are concerned it should satisfy us to under stand the dut duties lesof lesot of the present we cannot reasonably soli son bon ably without assuming new responsibilities know the truth any faster than we are re reaby to io believe and willing to perform e r in if we tabo fabo know and anti understand the tabors labors r required of us today to day that ia is sufficient for us to know then if we are ready and willing on our part pari part to perform that ia Is all that is r and all that will bo b required then I 1 will bay eay to one andall and all alf let ua us be awake to our own interests and welfare and ever be ready to perform the he work that is necessary to be e done for the build ingup of the kingdom of god and we shall never be sorry for having taken the industrious dust rious part but it if we have any fault to find be for not having done more in theor kjof righteousness in order that we may have no regret of thia this kind lind let is ua ve lie awake to ta the labors and duties of today to day I 1 know very well that thee there are some people that never nev r get it into their ands they do not beem seem to cobi coba comprehend that they can perform as much as they really can when we look at the history of men in ages that are past and gone we can see that there were men called at many times to perform important works that had bad but bul little abili ability tv butze but we also see that if they put that tha t little it e ab ability ty into exercise and labored as faithfully aa as they could they were enabled to bring about much righteousness we want the bane sane feeling 1 i and influence with ua us then we can perform the works that are required of us and do what we do cheerfully and with A good heart and in that manner chih whit h will be acceptable in the sight of high heaven and in th thib this is W way a we shall prosper in all out laudable aride undertakings r and we shall receive the blessing of our heavenly father and the approbation of all good men frem the time aime this church and kingdom vas ivas vaa establish established ad upon the earth to the pretend day we have never sever been at a loss to know kneir what to do but we have at all times and under all circumstances had bad the path of duty made plain unto us and our individual line of duty marked out unto us and whenever we I 1 have taken the counsel given we have been prospered ind and made bappe while those that rave gave have taken takes a contrary course have met with disappointment and been thereby rendered very unhappy we are all probationers passing through a state of trial but still there is a labor that we can perform in this probationary existence that will aid in the rolling forth and building up of the kingdom kingdom of god and j we can thereby obtain the blessings les ies sings that pertain to that kingdom we are all looking forward to a time when we shall receive in that temple that is 13 to be built but which we do not expect to see finished for a short time to come all the blessings 1 of endowments and anti priesthood that have i i been promised unto the faithful we are called upon to engage in tuis this all important work and while we are arc laboring at this let i us consider well the endowments that we chave have so much need of between this and the time the temple of our god is finished a and 11 d made ready for the additional olit pouring outpouring of the spirit of the most arost high it we d do 0 not 5 gain ain aln experience and obtain the necessary endowments dow ments as we pass along we shall find ourselves very poorly prepared for the great and dorious glorious endowments that are to be received ceia in that Tein tempe pe if we ive do rot prepare ourselves those endowments it if we are permitted to receive them at all will be no better for us than the endowments given to some sore men in nauvoo that is they will prove a curse instead of a blessing for one I 1 feel to rejoice in the blessings of peace e that we enjoy and in the union and fellowship of the holy spirit which prevails in the midst of this people and I 1 know that these good fruits which are amongst us grow out cut of those glorious principles we have embraced we are united in the truth and it is by the truth that we are kept together and that thib thia oneness is made to abide with us continually 1 and it is this truth and the spirit thereof tuat that t leads us in the ri right ht direction by this spirit I lwe we are led I 1 e dl in the way of peace of salvation I 1 and of hap happiness iness while principles piea plea that are adopted by the world do not bring with them salvation I 1 have noticed in my experience with this people that the princ principles itis of our faith falth revealed through the pro prophet le h et joseph 0 eph produce joy and peace such as the world cannot give for our principles bring with them present salvation and all the principles of the gospel that have been and that are to be revealed do and will continue to bring a present salvation lon ion this is the way vay to be saved and if we continue to act upon this principle all the time we shall obtain salvation in this world A orld orid and in that which is to come it makes very little difference to the faithful saint whether be he be called to labor in this w arld wrid or in the world 0 of f 11 spirits 11 rits BO so that be he embrace and live y t those h 1 1 principles that will bring a present deliverance from bondage and sin and produce within our own bosoms peace and hag hap happiness i we are blessed with the power to know kaow the right way for we have around us Is and in our midat midst those men that can point out to us the course to be pursued in order to secure life and light ara ark aruo to obtain the blessings promised I 1 by the practice ot of the truth we wish to be freed from the error and from the evils of the word in order that we may be happy in this life and prepare ourselves for glory and exaltation in the life which is to come there is one thing that ia is positive and c certain r an and d that is that it will require some labor and exertion on our part in order to secure the great bless blessings ling fing that pertain to the kingdom of our god we must therefore ej reflect and apply our minds and ouy our energies to the acquin ement of know knowledge ledge lodge I 1 or we shall not receive the promised treasures I 1 repeat we must mut apply our minds to the principles of lle ile lie life if we ever expect to obtain their beDe benefits fItS ahil and blessings 1 I have often thought that there were a great many people who thought too much of other matters 3 their minds seem to be upon gold and silver and gordly riches instead of deot devoti i ing their time to the obtaining of that eternal store of knowledge which ia is necessary for every man and arid woman wiman to enjoy who are preparing for the society of the t bei bet sanctified the principles of life that we are being taught are better than the gold that can be found in the mines for they will teach ua us the way of salvation and by observing them we shall be made to partake of the benefits and blessings that flow from them then i if our minds are led to look at matters in this light our thoughts and feelings will be to obtain the richest treasure there ia is within our reach and when we obtain that treasure it will be the means of doing away with the evil that is in the world it if there was no evil amongst mankind there would be no cori rup tion to encounter therefore let us practice the principles cf truth and thereby do away with the influence and power of evil let us i learn and thoroughly digest the principles of truth and then we shall be blessed with all those choice and desirable blessings which flow from obedience to the pure and holy prin t caples we practise i now that each one of us who profess to abe be saints may mav be ready to do these things in i faith and full assurance of having a part in the first resurrection is my prayer in the name of jesus amen |
