Show j A NEW roe s in a and around rou br brigham are now scratching their heads and wondering what can be done to eradicate the peach rust that his has destroyed much ot of the short crop this year early in the season little brown spots noticed on the growing peaches which were regarded with misgivings by the growers and their development was watched with interest and alarm it was discovered that as the peach ripened the spots went deeper into the flesh of the fruit until it rotted the part on which it had fastened itself and the peach would invariably drop off the limb the rust as it is called does not impair the flavo the peach and it if the fruit is picked before the disease has goue gone too tar far it is found to be solid and good under the skin but peaches afflicted with rust will not keep so the shippers have had a glorious time culling out the spotted peaches as nothing but first class fruit has been shipped by the various firms of this city the rust gives the growers a new evil to study and combat for checked it must be or the entire crop will be ruined some think the wet weather has had much to do with this peculiar condition which is very reasonable to suppose |
