President Gwyn Harmer welcomed the ladies, and read a prayer of thankfulness for the gift of life. Marianne Evans read the Club Collect. Hostess Karen Taylor introduced her talented grandson, Brant Vest, who will graduate from BYU in April with an art major. He is the son of Jeff and Cynthia Vest, and recently spent a semester abroad in Australia studying aboriginal art and working one on one with Maori artists. He has a suite of water colors from the trip, and painted murals on some of the youth hostels in which they stayed. Brant prefers visual to verbal communication and clarified his 4 by 6 oil paintings, each one depicting 1980 icons: aT.V., film and music idol. The media has been the primary influence on his art, and he first began as a child sketching the characters that he saw on "Sesame Street." Brant wavered between technical drawing or creative art, and the latter won. He loves oil painting but knows that is a tough way-tearn a living. He, therefore, plans to get his M.A. in Art Education and teach. The large oil paintings on display at Peteetneet are Brants senior college project and express his love of the creative, entertaining, nostalgic aspects of freedom of choice in art. The literal meaning demonstrates the influence and impact on his senses and perceptions of the media, particularly during the 1980s. All paintings have common settings and are in intermingling of pop icons, classical art, and images from magazines and newspapers. on TV or movie titles such as "Theocrats and Video Tapes," The titles are take-off- s "Romancing the Ferrari," or "Family Lies." n His exhibit includes likenesses of such stars as Kevin Bacon, Joan Collins, Tom Selleck, Danny DeVito, and Molly Ringwald. The film actors are classically draped poses taken from famous paintings in art history such as Rafael and Mary Cassatt. The scanty clothing is symbolic of the 1980 controversy targeting youth with immorality, immodesty, and violence. The TV personalities are posed to reflect the shift in morality, and the musicians are in Brants intermingling of pop icons. Some of his w'orks took a month to stiff paint, but he actually did six of them in two months. After Brantons presentation, Karen Taylor and Fay Angus served a delicious salad of bow-ti- e pasta with chicken, grapes, and mandarin oranges. Tasty chocolate Easter candies were a special treat. o well-know- semi-nud- anti-sta- e, Mountain View Hospital lab technicians use various machines to'produce test results. Mountain View Hospital (MVH) in Payson has been awarded an accreditation by Cole inspection. lege of American Pathologists (CAP), based on results of a recent Dr. Stanley L. Gibbon, MVH lab director, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of services provided. The hospital earned an "accreditation with distinction" by the inspection panel. A team of six inspectors took a full day to search records and examine the laboratorys compliance to policies and guidelines outlined by the College of American Pathologists. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized by the federal, government as being equal to or more stringent than the governments own inspection program. During the CAP review, inspectors examined laboratory records and quality control of procedures for the preceded two years. CAP inspectors also examined the entire staff s qualifications, the laboratorys equipment, facilities, safety program and the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the hospitals patients. The MVH Laboratory has earned CAP accreditation for over 23 years. "The inspectors commented on how w ell organized our lab is and on having some of the latest technology in the market," said Robert Darling, laboratory manager. Most of the tests performed in the lab assist physicians in determining patient diagnosis. Valuable health information obtained from fast and accurate lab work can assist doctors to start patients on necessary treatment as soon as possible. The MVH lab continually upgrades its equipment. Laboratory personnel also receive valuable training in new lab tests and technology. Over 300,000 laboratory tests are performed each year in the lab at MVH. Tests range from simple urinalysis to blood banking and complex tissue studies. "We are pleased to have our laboratory recognized as a superior department," said Kimball S. Anderson, chief operations officer at MVH. "This accreditation reflects the diligent work of our employees to maintain the level of excellence our physicians and patients deserve. The accreditation also reflects HCAs commitment to Mountain View and the community to upgrade our equipment to provide the latest technology available." rs co-hoste- on-sit- ss PAM'S JOHN BARBER BROT .a sy.'SSf s.'s.
