At this time, the cause of the accident is being studied and Payson City will further clarify the details as they become available. The employee was transported to the University of Utah Burn Center following initial treatment at Mountain View Hospital in Payson. Payson City would like to thank the Ambulance and Hospital medical personnel for their heroic efforts to aid one of their employees. They finished 2nd in the state, losing a close match to Provo, who was undefeated the entire season. At the end of region play, they were tied with Springville for 3rd place. During region play, they defeated Lone Peak, American Fork, Timpview, and Spanish Fork twice. They split with Springville. To determine who would go into the state tournament in 3rd and 4th place, a coin toss was held. Springville won the flip and went in, in 3rd place, and Payson in 4th. The state tournament was held on November 5th and 6th. Payson played Highland in the first round. Highland was ranked 5th in the state and was the second place team from Region 5. Highland had not finished less than 4th place since 1994. Payson defeated them, 3 and Kamie Jo Massey led the team with 12 kills and four aces. The second match was with region opponent Pleasant Grove. The Lions had lost to them twice in region play. They were prepared to play this time. They had focused on jump server Kelsie Kartchner in practice and knew they bad to pass well in order to get the win. Passers Nicole Davis, J ami Whicker and Kamie Jo Massey took charge by providing good passes to Melanie OHara, the Lion's setter. Melanie provided excellent setting to the hitters. Shalyn Partridge and Andrea Tervort provided excellent defensive skills to keep the ball in play. The second day of the state tournament was on November 6th. Payson knew that they would be playing Mountain Crest Mountain Crest had been ranked second in the state all year. They were the defending state champions, as well as the 1st place team from region four. Payson served aggressively to take them out of their attacking game. Kamie Jo Massey had 6 aces, Jillyn Stewart had 1, Nicole Davis had 1, and Andrea Tervort had 1. Mountain Crest had a hard time finding their rhythm Payson defeated them, 15-- 6 and Good defensive play by Jami Whicker and Nicole Davis kept Mountain Crest from kills. Jami Whicker had 7 digs that saved them from scoring. By defeating Mountain Crest, Payson had qualified for the State Championship match. The championship match was played at UVSC at 6:30. The Lions were represented through fog and spotlights to the audience. They were facing region rival Provo. In region play, Provo had dominated Payson. In the previous match they had been defeated 15-This was a different day and time. The Lions knew that they could play with Provo. The jitters of the presentation were noticeable in the first 15-1- 0. 0. ("VOLLEYDALL," cornuadon Show Christmas Spirit With Wreaths The Payson Downtown Merchants are sponsoring a Christinas Wreath Contest with the hope of creating a new tradition in our city for the holidays. Their immediate goal few this year is to turn Downtown Main Street into a Christmas Wreath Street (most logical place to start), and hope the idea will then root so that in years to come the entire community will become a Christmas Wreath Community. Anyone can enter - families, clubs, schools, or any individual who feds the spirit of the season. Wreaths will be judged and worthwhile prizes awarded. Categories will be: Traditional, Spiritual, Country. Wreaths should be weatherproof, with our without lights, any size. Deadline for entries is Friday, December 3.
