Mayoral candidate primary elections. Russell L Hillman, seeking Gordon L Nelson was eliminated from the race with 122 votes. For Payson City Council, Bemell Evans came out way ahead of his opponents with 720 votes. Three other candidates joining him in the race for the two seats few city council are: incumbent Bob Provstgaard, with 373 votes; Steve Hanson, 344 votes; and incumbent Jim Griffin, who received 336 votes. Eliminated from the race for city council were: Norm Finlinson (240), Burtis Bills (178), Kris Gourley (103), Don Dixon (72), V.L. Barnett (51), John Futch (31), and Leland Harrison (12). terms availIn Santaquin, Jerry L. Pike was eliminated from the race for one of the two four-yein Kirk L. Rohbock, 94 votes; and David Hathaway, Greenhalgh, with 57 votes. Genola Town held a primary election for the office of mayor. O. Robert Anderson carried the most votes with 106; he was followed by W. Neil Brown, who received 65 votes. Eliminated from the race were; John P. Black, 38 votes; Gordon D. Thomas, 24 votes; and Doug Hunt, 8 votes. In Goshen, Todd Steele was eliminated from the race for one of the two seats up for grabs on the city council; he received 1 1 votes. The four candidates left to seek election are Roger A. Jensen with 80 votes, Dorothy Sprague with 57 votes, Joe Stansfield with 39 votes, and Wendy Hopes with 33 ar votes. Elections take place Tuesday, November 4. Be sure to vote. The competition was strong and the event a success as the Payson High School Band hosted the Annual Nebo Tournament of Bands, with 17 bands and 1500 students participating. Payson High School Marching Band, under the direction of Connie M. Ericksen and staff members Kenton Phillips, Lynette Komiya, Kerri Welton, and Kenton Neilsen. is working to rebuild in numbers and reputation and is enjoying a "renaissance" of band attitudes such as teamwork, school : spirit, pride, discipline and attention to detail. In June, the band had enrollment of 18 winds, 15 percussion, 3 flags and 3 bagpipes. At the time of the Nebo Tournament, there woe 38 winds, 13 percussion, and 16 auxiliary. The 97 field show presented classic British band tunes, closing with "Scotland the Brave." The band is supported and funded with the efforts of a terrific band booster organization and a school administration who sincerely promotes every good education cause. Head Judge Robert Greenwell, one of the original judges when the tournament began over 19 years ago, is the source of promoting the marching band program and its growth here in Utah. Be- -. cause of his dedication and efforts, a special award, "The Robert Greenwell Outstanding Musical Award," in open competition was named in his honor. In a surprise tribute, he was asked to give this award to American Fork High School. The 17 schools who competed in four divisions, B, A, AA, and Open division, were judged on: Musical Performance, General Effect, Marching and Maneuvering. There is also competition for the drum majors. The tall flag, rifle, and drill team auxiliaries are judged on specialties, general effect, and marching and maneuvering. South Summit High School received a Special Participation Award for Division B. Seven high schools participated in the Division A category: Provo, Orem, Viewmont, Ben Lomond, Springville, Grantsville, and Payson. Participation Awards went to Grantsville, Ben Lomond, and Provo. Fourth Place went to Orem High, Third Place to Viewmont, Second Place to Payson, and Springville received First Place. Springville also received the Outstanding Musical Per- Son Andres Community Thrift Shop Grand Opening Slated For October 17th The San Andres Community Thrift Shops grand opening will be commemorated with a ribbon cutting ceremony performed by the Payson Area Chamber of Commerce this Friday at 9:00 a.m. The Thrift Shop is located jn the basement of the San Andres Catholic Church, 315 East 100 North, Payson (enter at west side of the church). Corrections To Article Submitted By Nebo School District The article "Frank Leach Selected Partner Of Year" was submitted to The Payson Chronicle by Nebo School District Some of the information submitted was incorrect Frank has not been with Coast to Coast Hardware for about eight years, but he was on their National Store Owners Advisory Board at the time he changed to True Value. He is no longer a member of Rotary, Lions, or the Kiwanis Clubs, but he once was. Connie Olson is the current president of the High School PTA. Frank was president a few years ago. One of Franks areas of interest has always been education and this will continue. Frank has been president of the Nebo Foundation for Excellence this past year. formance Award, Viewmont had Outstanding Auxiliary, and Payson High Drum Major Klint Crawford received top honors of Outstanding Drum Major. Five schools comprised the AA division. Winners were: Carbon High School and Lone Peak High School, Participation Awards; Third Place, Pleasant Grove; Second Place, Spanish Fork; and First Place went to Roy High School. Outstanding Auxiliary went to Lone Peak, and Roy High School received Outstanding Drum Major and Outstanding Musical Performance. Three schools competed in the Open Division. Winners were: Mountain Crest, First Place; also Outstanding Auxiliary and Outstanding Drum Major, Macgrath took Second Place, and American Fork took Outstanding Musical Performance (Robert Greenwell Award) and Sweepstakes honors. Ericksen noted that the competition was a "phenomenal success." She also noted that there were many volunteer hours given and extends a big thank you to all who participated in any way. She also noted that there were many w ho went out of their way, including Band Boosters, teachers the at high school (Carl Swenson and FFA, Dane Alfred and Drama Department), Joe Worthen and Karl Teamont of the Payson Community Recreation, Gary Warner, Salem City Recreation and Councilman, local businesses, and Randy Lindstrom, who donated a needed copier at the last' moment.
