Show The Payson Chronicle, March 20, 1996, Page 12 FFA Awards: Continued From Page One Adam Butler was first runner-u- p for the Star State Greenhand Agribusiness award. Both Star State FFA Degree winners came from our chapter. This award is given to the most outstanding student in the state with strong FFA involvement and a strong FFA project. The winners were Matt Reid for Agriculture Production, and Tommy Liddle for Agribusiness. Payson FFA was awarded State Fair Sweepstakes first runner-u- p for participation student of with crop and animal exhibits. Jake Lundell was awarded Utah the year. This was based on research and data collected on his project of crossbreeding and using genetic information to increase production of his swine herd. The Chapter was also recognized for their involvement and contribution to Ag in the Classroom program. The Chapters project in this area is bringing over 3000 elementary students to local dairies to show them the importance of agriculture. Five Payson FFA members were approved to receive the American FFA Degree. This will be presented at the National FFA Convention in November at Kansas City, Missouri. The five students are Ben Isaac, Kami King, Pepper Scott, Jennifer Silcox, and Josh Wright. Ben Isaac was selected to represent Utah as the Star Fanner candidate in The students were also able to hear from many keynote speakers. They gave the members good ideas to bring home and strengthen the chapter. Speakers included the famous Lee Nelson, National FFA Officer Joe Caffee, and Cary Peterson, Utah Secretary of Agriculture. This gave the students a positive outlook on the FFA and what it can do for them in the future. Payson FFA would like to thank the administration of Payson High School, parents, and all of the community members who make it possible for our Chapter to be successful. David and Jerry received Agriculture Proficiency Awards for Crop Production and Jake received an Agriculture Proficiency Award for Swine Productions. th Sign up now for Phoenix Fast Pitch Softball League, girls age Softball League (boys), grades 16-1- 8 9-- Payson High Bands Fund Raiser Features Hypnotist In the ongoing effort of raising funds for programs that are enriching as well as productive, the Payson Senior and Junior High Schools Band Booster program is hosting a fund ' raiser. On Thursday, March 28, at Payson High School, beginning at 7:00 p.m., the Band Face Tour with hypnotist Tracy Waterlyn. Tickets Boosters are sponsoring a "Pie-in-tare $5 from band booster members, or they can be purchased at Office Necessities, 4 North Main. Tickets purchased at the door are $7 each. This is a program for families, but mostly older children from age 10 to adult Waterlyn and his wife Alicia and three children moved to Payson about one year ago and are impressed with the town and the people. ; "This is one way I can help programs he earn some money," be said, "and have fun while doing it." Wasatch Mtn. Quilters Exhibit Grappling Wrestling Force Brings Home Medals The Utah Arts Council Traveling Exhibition began March 13th and will continue through April 8, 1996, at the Peteet-neArts Center, 10 South Peteetneet Blvd (600 East), Payson. Nine members of the Payson FFA Chapter received the State FFA degree. This Is the highest degree recognized on the state level. They were: Heidi Bryan, Sandy Morgan, Cindy Morgan, Amber Wright, Hillary Isaac; back row: Tommy Liddle, Jake Lundell, Matt Reid, and Brett Christensen. 465-225- 3; Grappling Wrestling Force participated in another wrestling meet this past weekend in Spanish Fork. Again, they brought home many medals.
