Wright of Payson, Utah, is currently deployed aboard the destroyer USS Leftwich, deployment to homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is midway through a the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf as part of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz Battle Group. During the deployment, the battle group has participated in Operation Southern Watch, "no-fly- " zone over Southern Iraq, as well as in enforcing the United Nations-impose- d numerous naval air and surface training exercises with armed forces from Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. While deployed, USS Leftwich participated in exercise "Eager Sentry," near Kuwait. The exercise involved maneuvering drills, diversion tactics and formation steaming. USS Leftwich is a Spruance-clas- s destroyer which primarily performs an warfare mission. The deployment exemplifies the new Navy and Marine Corps policy, entitled ". . . From the Sea," in which, on short notice, U.S. forces are poised to respond to crises in distant lands, from the sea. Art work in all mediums is acceptable. All local artists are encouraged to show their works. Pieces are not judged, so beginners, amateurs and professionals are welcome. Oils, pencil or ink sketches, watercolors or combination pieces; sculpture, whether metal, wood, clay, ceramic, stone, or other medium are all acceptable.
