Congratulations, Ryan, for your success. Club notes Cultus Club The first Cultus Club meeting of 1983 convened in Zions Bank Club Room, January 5, at 2 p.m. President Barbara Jex welcomed the large number of members who were present. Parliamentarian Bethel Drissel led the group in repeating the Pledge of Allegiance, and Lilly Nelson read the Club Collect. At the conclusion of Club business, Home Life Chairman Berniece Montague introduced Zina Hanks and Mildred Taylor from Salem who gave a very interesting demonstration about sandwiches. Mrs. Hanks related the history of the sandwich which is said to have been originated and named by the fourth Earl of Sandwich in the 1700s. The two women had made and had on display over fourteen kinds of fillings which they put on nine different kinds of bread. They showed regular, open face, rolled, ribbon, and checkerboard sandwiches. Club members had an enjoyable time sampling the large variety of sandwiches and drinking, the delicious hot spiced fruit drink that was served. Recipes for the sandwich fillings and breads were given to those in attendance. Hostesses for the meeting Margaret Williams, Namoi Hillman, and Barbara Jex. Nathan Dunford, son of Craig and Sherrie Dunford of Payson Blazer 17th Ward, was named Scout of the Month during the December Court of Honor in Payson Stake. Nathan has received his hiking, first aid, physical fitness, cooking, citizenship, and family living skill awards. He also has been awarded merit badges in fingerprinting, and plumbing, firemanship, athletics. Nathans father has his Eagle badge and Duty to God awards, and his grandfather, Rex Dunford, Provo, has a long history of Scouting leadership positions, of Commissioner including Scouting in Provo - so Nathan is carrying on very well a good record in Scouting. His current rank is that of Tenderfoot. Club Notes Merry Mixers The Merry Mixers held their first meeting January 10, 1983. We learned how to make fruit sauces.
