Bean, Bettylou president of the chorus, has announced the date for December 12 - 8:00 p.m., at the Payson East Stake Center. There will be a change this year - noticeably a change of directors. After 32 years of leading the chorus, J. D. Christensen has laid down his baton. The La Nesta Chorus originated under the direction of Carl O. Nelson. In 1950, J. D. took over the reins and has directed the chorus since, at hundreds of various communities, county and church functions. The chorus wants to take this time to publicly thank him for his dedication, efforts and talents, for the many hours of pleasure he has given us and the public. We will miss him. The new director is V. L. Barnett of Payson. All members feel him to be talented and well qualified. At an early age, he learned to play the trumpet, piano and accordian. He sang at various programs. In high school, he was student director for both band and chorus. He won the outstanding Bandsman award and was the first to receive the annual La Nesta Scholarship Aw'ard. He attended Southern Utah State College as a composite music major where he was awarded a full right scholarship. After a stint in the army and fulfilling a L.D.S. mission, he attended B.Y.U. continuing his music career singing with the Acapella Choir. V. L. has studied voice under Dr. Ralph Woodward, Dr. Harris and Dr. Brad Curtis for 6 years, while working on his degree in voice Pedogogy.
