Show The Payson Chronicle, October 14, 1992, Page 7 Old Homes Recognized At Payson Historical Society Meeting Three impressive old homes, that have like silent stood sentinels for almost a century on the north entrance to Main Sreet, received recognition at the Payson Historical Society meeting at Peteetneet Academy. Charles Shepherd, representing the Board of State History, presented Official National Register Certificates to the granddaughters of the builders: Marie Stevenson, granddaughter of Samuel Douglass; Florence Curtis, Provo, granddaughter of John H. Dixon; and Coralee of Chns-tophWilson, Flintoff (Jack) Dixon. The Douglass House, built in 1874, is the oldest of the three and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in August 1992. The John Dixon House, now owned by James Hill, was built lin 1 893 and fisted on the Register in 1978. The C. F. Jack Dixon House was built about 1899 and also has been on the National Register since 1978. The Douglass House and Jack Dixon House are still occupied by family members. Madoline Dixon was the speaker for the evening. She told about how she first began writing as a child. She was assisted in her presentation by June Biggs, who helped her show her books, and magazines, in which her articles have been published over the years. The stoiy of her many sources that she researched for her three books was a story in it- une rea a sort humorous story, se topher Flintoff (Jack) Dixon; and Marie Stevenson, granddaughter published in True West, that delighted the audience. There were more than fifty in attendance. er (Left to right) Charles Shepherd of the Board of State History, presents awards to Florence Cur Hunan Restaurant Fine Mandarin Szechaun and Hunan Cuisine Lion Soccer Team Finishes Season Second In Region The Lady Lions have finished their season, taking second and entering the State playoffs, with Dixie taking first. On Tuesday, September 29th, the Lady Lions traveled to neighboring Spanish Fork in second place after having lost to Dixie. The Dons played a surprisingly good game and shocked a very good Payson team. Adrienne Scott shot a penalty kick in the middle of the first half. The Lions hung on, dominating the play, but they could not get the ball in the net. Spanish Fork scored 1 in the second half to make it a 1 game. Tied at the end, the shootout began. Five girls from each team would kick a penalty kick one on one with the goalie. Summer Ercanbrack and Jen Silcox scored for the Lions in the shootout, but it was not enough. Brenda Fumiss, the Payson keeper, hung in there, and at the end it was Sudden death began with each team shooting one, then the one on top would win. Payson came up short; Spanish won On Friday, October 2nd, the team traveled to St. George to play Pineview. After playing in a sand storm for 79 minutes, Summer Ercanbrack kicked from the far left comer in the last 60 seconds of the game. to score for the Lions, Tuesday, October 6th, was sweet revenge when the Lady Lions played Dixie at home Candi Scott scored the first goal early in the first half but was soon taken and won out of the game with an ankle injury. It is still questionable if Candi will play for the Lions at the State Playoffs. Jen Silcox also socred 1 in the first half. The Dixie Flyers scored 2 also to make it 2 at the end of the first half. In the first few minutes of the second half Jennifer Silcox broke away from the fullback The Lions hung on and won. to go one on one with their keepr to make it The Lions are now 2 in Region. They will play Skyview from Region 5 in a playoff Wedgame at home on October 12th. The winner of that game will play Lehi at Lehi on nesday, October 14th. The Lions have had a great season. This is the second year for girls soccer at Payson High and both years they have gone to State. The Lady Lions also had the honor of having two team members be on the Utah Soccer Team: Megan Osborn, daughter of Greg and Chris Osborn of Academic Genola, and Danalin Wood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wood of West Mountain. This is a great honor and tribute to these athletes. They will be honored at the State Finals at Derks Field on October 24th. 3-- 3. 4-- 3.
