Show The Payson Chronicle, July 10, 1991, Page 7 Em Cluff Tournament Set For July 15th At Gladstan of the n lady golfers in the state is a former winner of the Em Guff Memorial, Terry Norman, who won it at age 13, teamed up with her mother Mary. The following is a tribute written for Em Guff Day and presented on June 8, 1972, by Joyce Wilson: One best-know- Toast To Em Cluff The Gladstan Lady Golfers Are honoring today A talented lady a way. When the weather's not right for golfing Here's what she can do Get out her needlepoint, her china Or paint a picture or two. In many, many Shes got what it takes. Shes a likeable soul. And one time in Washington She aced a short hole. At eighty-seveyears of age n Left to right, Marianne Evans (daughter of Gene Hillman, for whom Hillman Baseball park is named) is president of the Gladstan Ladies Golf Association this year; Rae Ann Page is the original organizer of the Em Cluff Memorial Tournament; and Rowene Wilson is Em Cluffs niece and also a member of the Gladstan Ladies Golf Association. The Em Guff Memorial Tournament, sponsored by the Gladstan Ladies Golf Association takes place Monday, July IS, at Gladstan beginning at 8 a.m. Prizes and a lunch are included. There are a limited number of openings for the tournament, and you must call Gladstan today two-lad- y best ball format. A State handicap is required. to sign up. Its an le Marianne Evans, President of Gladstan Ladies Golf Association this year, says, "We feel this is a very special tournament It began when Em was in her mid eighties and still golfing. She was a very talented lady and donated a great many of her handiworks, paintings, and porcelains to be raffled off for the building of the original Gladstan Clubhouse." Rae Ann Page was the original organizer of the event, in 1971, and still participates. Rowene Wilson, Ems niece, also plays and is a member of the Gladstan Ladies Association. Em Guff began golfing in 1922 in Bellingham, Washington. She carded a hole in one during her golfing career (and her niece Rowene has had two). 18-ho- You wont find any better. Shes got that chipping and putting Right down to the letter. Shes a very avid golfer. And really enjoys the game. You'll never find another With a straighter type of aim. She doesnt bother to drag around Those clubs she doesn't use. And Just takes her trusty putter As a member of our golf club. Shes been a real aid. Shes donated pictures a couple more clubs she'll choose. And other things shes made. Shes given her all When the going's been rough. If you dont know by now. We honor 'EM CLUFF. |
