He also signed autographs afterward. Mr. Pulver spoke of emphasizing the downtown area more during the coming year, hoping to make Payson a showplace of Utah County. "We are very pleased with the Payson City Council and the way it is working with the Chamber," he noted. Past President Kathy Brandon spoke of the past years Chamber accomplishments, mentioning such projects as the fireworks booth, the work on the Salmon Supper, and progress on a billboard for the freeway. She noted that $10,000 in Chamber Gift Certificates were purchased around Christmastime, emphasizing that the gift certificate money stays in Payson. Master of Ceremonies for the event was Brad Olson, who is a great sports fan and obviously honored to be able to introduce quarterback Detmer and the rest of the program. Grant Code of Utah Valley Community College presented the honorary "Presidents Gavel" to Mr. Pulver. Jill Montague, Miss Payson, offered a musical number on the piano and Miss Utah Valley, Rama Jean Griffeth, performed a ballet number. Classes are provided in automotive technology, horticulture, data processing, building construction, electronics, computer drafting, auto body repair, occupational foods, welding, graphic arts, agriculture mechanics, animal science, marketingretailing, child developmentchild care, occupational child care, fashion design, farm and ranch health occupations, home health aide, accounting, shorthand," management, horticulture, keyboarding, word processing, graphicprinting, upholstering, cabinet making, design technology cad systems, law enforcement, small engine repair, computer science, business law, plant and sod science, health occupations, clothing and textiles, interior design, teen living, (TLC) technology, fife & careers, as wed as cooperative learning programs. The theme for the week to honor the role of the skided vocational work force Is: "Vocational Education: Gassroom Of The Future." Governor Bangerter, in declaring the week, stated, "I urge all Utahns to participate in this observance and to join with our vocational educators, business, and industry in striving for the goal of continued excellence and in guaranteeing a future for the people of Utah by providing jobs and quadfied workers through vocational education training programs." In Utah, 75 to 80 percent of the jobs require vocational-technicpreparation. These standard of Uving enjoyed by all citizens. A high skided workers play a key role in the wed trained work force is a critical factor in Utahs economic future. We are fortunate that a large majority of the individuals trained in public schools, technology centers and colleges remain in Utah to contribute to our economic growth. Many of the local highl schools are inviting parents to visit the vocational labs and classrooms during vocational week to observe die quality programs avadable in the district.
