Box 385, Payson, Utah ' Library receives funds for VCR Linda Collard, head librarian of Payson City Library, announced that the library would be receiving a VCR. The VCR gift program commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Carnegie Corporation. The program is sponsored by the American Library Association and the Carnegie Corporation with the goal of enhancing the role of video cassettes in libraries. The VCR will be purchased from a grant awarded by the Carnegie Corporation. Payson was chosen as one of 600 public from libraries across the nation to receive the grant, and the only library in Utah. The 1,681 U.S. public libraries built with funding from philanAndrew Carnegie thropist were eligible. In the spirit of the original library Carnegie funding program, libraries who applied agreed to match the funds for a minitor. The VCR will cost $350 and is to be matched with funds from the city to purchase a television monitor. According to Collard, the VCRmonitor unit will be used for moviestory time in the summer, administrative training, and other needs by the public. Dr. Williams taught the class about blood sugar levels and the things Pete must do to keep his blood sugar level at 125, which is normal. The class discussed the need for insulin and the fact that Pete needs snacks every 3 to 4 hours. Snacks that raise blood sugar level fastest are raisins, orange juice, and apple juice. The class learned that what you eat doesnt cause diabetes. It was a worthwhile experience to have Dr. Williams visit Petes class. The first grade classes at Park View School had a fun day on October 30, 1987. The teachers, Mrs. Hassard and Mrs. Johnson, and the students dressed as their favorite folk heroes or fantasy characters in connection with e their studies of real and lieterature. Some of the characters represented were: Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Tigger, Davy Crockett, Snow White, Casper the Ghost, Johnny Appleseed, Minnie Mouse, Petes Dragon, the Little Witch, and Snow Whites mother (witch). Park View is excited to be having a month of activities during November. The reflections contest, Wonders of the World, will be held with four separate divisions. The categories include music, visual literature, and photography. They will make Dr. Dwight Williams visited his son, Pete, and his first grade class at Park View School. She is Thanksgiving vacation November to the Congratulations Spotlight Students for the month of October: Leese Martinson, fifth grade; Alishia Baker, fourth grade; Eric Zeeman, third grade; Wayne Forsey and Nathan Holt, second grade; Juan Montano and Aaron Court, first grade; and Ryan Depew, kindergarten. We are very grateful to those who supported our October activities. We appreciate the willingness of those who helped with the carnival. We still need more support, however, and would hope that you can and will find time to help us with the future activities. She also has influenced students in her teaching. In Salt Lake she taught first grade one year, then moved to Salem where she taught two years-fi- rst and third grades. For the past two years she has been teaching first grade at Park View. Sandra graduated from South High School, and went on to BYU where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human and Development Family Relations. She chose the field of elementary education because she likes watching the children grow. In first grade the children are happy at what they achieve-th- ey compete against themselves, not each other. I love to see them be and content. She happy recently wrote individual notes to each of the students to attach on their report cards and in each one she felt they were all happy students. She would also like to influence the children to have a I want positive them to be confident in self and good attitudes. We get along well and are very helpful. I like the small, cozy atmos- Sandra Johnson, first grade teacher at Park View, has been influenced by two people. The first was her mother, Eleanor Bandley, who lives in Salt Lake City. She instilled in Sandra the belief that she could accomplish anything she set out to do. Eleanor was always supportive and showed Sandra 465-391- 16-2- 0. free-loa- n phere. Besides teaching, Sandra crossword enjoys reading, puzzles, sewing, and making memory books for her children. She enjoys being part of her childrens lives. With her desire to touch lives, and her teaching ability, she will always have a positive influence in the lives of the students she teaches. And she continues this love to other children she teaches. I feel that I have a class of grandchildren. I can love and said Ella Rae spoil them, Otten, a kindergarten teacher at Peteetneet. Ella Rae graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education, Health and Recreation, with a minor in music. She later went back and got her certificate in Elementary Education. She taught two years at Lincoln Jr. High School, taught first grade at Layton for three years, and taught first grade at Hyrum, and then substituted. She has been teaching first grade at Peteetneet for the past five years. She enjoys little children. I love watching them develop, grow, and learn. They are so enthusiastic and they appreciate everything they do. Kindergarten is so much fun. She wants them to continue this desire for learning. I hope I fill their need to learn and they will continue this desire for learning. I want them to enjoy life. Peteetneet is a great school to be teaching in. I love the are faculty and principal-one happy family. The faculty loves to teach and they are dedicated, they are concerned and give the best instruction. The small school atmosphere is fun, too. In five years she would like to be at home, and retired. She is married to Leaun Otten, a seminary teacher.
