It proved to be an interesting day with many people coming dressed in towels. Tuesday showed an odd array of colors and more laughs as students came to school in mismatch clothes. Jeans Day was Wednesday for everyone to come casual. Everyone is eagerly waiting for Thursday for the Homecoming king to be revealed, the bonfire to roar, and the FFA Rodeo with Western Day. Still the whole week has built for one day, Friday. Everyone will come dressed in their green and white, screaming and yelling in the pep assembly, cheering the team on to a hopeful victory over the Springville Devils. On Saturday, to help wind up the week, the annual Homecoming dance will be held at the City Center from p To start out the Homecoming the Homecoming was . crowned on Monday. The queen is Amy Bateman with first attendant Michelle Bell and second attenWeek, Royalty dant Gina Gasser. Competition for Homecoming king began with a candymaking contest. Teachers to attend Science Convention Soon your science classes will be better than they have ever been before. Mr. Meldrum and Mrs. Walter will be going to the National Council of Science Convention in Teachers Salt Lake City on September 24th and 25th. They will be joined by teachers from all over our region who want to make their classes clearer and more fun. Our teachers will discuss the concepts they teach in their classrooms. By talking together they will come back with ne' things for us to learn. The convention is a proof fessional organization science teachers and includes demonstrations and lectures. It is held annually. 8:30 until 11:30 p.m. Thespians to perjorm Next at Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., the Thespians will, be performing their competition pieces, consisting of solos afcd small cuttings from Shakespeaigs works. They should do tArery well in the Cedar City Utah High Schools Shakespearean Competition. Kathy Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mont Spencer, was crowned 1987 FFA Rodeo Queen. Her attendants are Tara Tanner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lon Tanner, and Robyn Jacobson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Jacobson. They will reign over the FFA Rodeo Thursday. FFA Rodeo set A time Hootin-tooti- n what you can expect from the FFA rodeo. The FFA rodeo has been around for over fifteen years and is a fairly recent addition to Homecoming week. Applicants for the title of rodeo queen or participation in events had to be currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12. The judging for rodeo queen was based upon horsemanship, poise, and personality with the emphasis on horsemanship. Other events for the girls to participate in are breakaway, is roping, goat tying, barrels, poles, and keyhole. Boys events are calf roping, ribbon pull ribbon roping, hide race, will, cow milking, team roping, and bull riding. To celebrate the bicentennial the high school held a special assembly to help find out more about our Constitution. The speaker was Dr. Ross Peterson from the U. of U. Everyone met outside the school after the assembly at the north field to release balloons. All across the United States, schools everywhere released balloons and many released messages as well. It was a moment many of us will always mation and the possibility of military aid or service wui be discussed. There will be materials there for you to take to better understand these options. Come to this and be better prepared for October 20th, the day for college representatives to visit our school. Then you will be able to ask more questions intelligent and really have your future life planned. Be prepared! Volleyball team wins Winning two out of three games is evidence of incredible playing. The volleyball team is getting better and better as the year goes on. The J.V. team captams, Marci 1th and Michelle Arrington, along with Diane Jones and Jan Ockey as sophomore captains have been decided. Great things are expected from them. Yesterday they played Springville here and tomorrow at they will play the Timpview. Keep up the wins, team! The rodeo is tree to the general public and is an important part of the Homecoming celebration. So, if you want to have a great time and see who this years rodeo royalty are, come out to the rodeo. Its scheduled for Thursday, September 24th, and goes from 1 00 to 3 00 n m Cross Country team competes According to Coach Peck, In life, you only get out what youve put in, so give it all youve got. His track team believes this and shows it by running five miles a night for practice. The team has already participated in two meets where they did well. On Friday, they have another meet at Lehi. Then, on October 6. in Cedar City, and the cross-countr- y 13th, in Payson, are their last two meets before Region. Region this year will be held at Spanish Fork to help prepare for State one week alter on the 28th of October The team is composed ot Coach Stan Peck and members David Bahr, Joe Behling, Lance Neil Max DeGraw, Hard, Peck, Captain Robert Peck, Chris Reese, and James Robinson. Another fun part of Homecoming week la the painting of downtown store windows to promote Lion fever throughout the whole town. Each high school club or organization can participate. |
