Uintah, which has experienced something less than smashing success in its other athletic programs, over the past few years has been making up for the other deficiencies on the wrestling mat. The Lions are given little chance of beating the Utes. Next week, Payson will be involved in a couple of Christmas week tournaments, Wednesday at Spanish Fork against the host school and Emery and the intermountain Indian School. A week from today the Lions will be at home to host the annual Pay-so- n Holiday Invitational. Spanish Fork will be in town for that one along with Juab and Manti. The schedule for both tournaments is the opening round at 2 p.m. followed by finals beginning at 7 p.m. A week ago Payson dropped its final match, to Tooele. Mrs. Hiatt said her staff will prepare over 175 pounds of turkey for some 600 students the last school day before the holiday vacation begins. Included on the menu will be 84 pounds of dressing, 175 pounds of whipped potatoes, 15 gallons of gravy, 12 gallons sweet potatoes, 4 gallons cranberry sauce, 14 gallons red and green cubed jello salad, 1,200 wholewheat puff rolls with butter (the boys like an extra one), 60 pounds cake batter for the decorated Christmas cakes and 600- - 1, '2 pirns of milk. She said the lunchroom staff really enjoys preparing the meal because it is so universal in nature. According to Mrs. Hiatt, Christmas lunch is one of the years largest as far as participation goes. We normally serve about 550 students every day, she but when we serve our said, Christmas meal, we feed almost every child in school. Christmas turkey means extra work too. Instead of arriving at the lunchroom at 6 a.m., preparation begins the previous day. The turkeys are thoroughly "scrubbed down and the roasting job started. By 11 a.m. the students feast is ready. "It means a lot of extra work for everyone involved, Mrs. Hiatt continued, but when we realize the importance good nutrition plays in a persons life it means a lot more. We certainly know they could not get the same meal for 45 cents at a local requirement; dressing, pota- toes, sweet potatoes and cran-bersauce, the fruit and vegetable requirement; milk, the dairy group requirement; and bread, the breadcereal group. Counting all senior students, the United States ranked in the middle. In science, three nations ranked above the United States average for 10 year olds and fourteenth for average high school seniors. Limiting the study to the top students, it ranks seventh in science at the senior level. It should be remembered in most countries, only the select students get into high school. James Coleman of the Coleman Report indicates reading achievement is an outgrowth of home influences.
