Show From the Superintendent This is the second year of the Teacher Leadership program in Utah. There has been much discussion of the program by educators, legislators and Boards of Education. Recently in cooperation with the U.E.A., the State Board of Education made a study which would enable them to evaluate the Teacher I TO TIME START SPRING HOUSECLEANING Spruce up your furniture with a new cover from R ; 0 B E Leadership program. This report indicates that approximately 10 of the teachers in Utah are participants, with the majority of the population included in a survey of the State feeling that it is making a positive impact on education- al programs. This study tends to verify our feeling in Nebo that we have had considerable improvement, particularly in the area of curriculum, due to the outstanding effort put forth by teacher leaders. We feel that the majority of our teacher leaders are doing an outstanding job. One caution is that we must remember there are many excellent teachers besides those who are working in the leadership program. Some do not choose to participate. Selection is on the basis of the submission of a work or project outline which is scrutinized by a committee comprised of teachers and administrators for making recommendations to the Superintendent and the Board. If you would like further information about the leadership program, please contact a teacher leader, if you know one, or the District Office. $895 V-- 8 KEITH BRADFORD BUDDY BRADFORD LANE BARRON uARROWHEADm C. Otteaen i r progress has struck again! With it the makins of Well, many childhood memories has been uprooted and cleared away. The irrigation company and some of the farmers, (my hubby included) are in the "process of putting in a big, beautiful cement ditch through our property and on down the line through other property. Many changes must be made to accommodate these cement ditches and the most significant change is that many trees have to be uprooted and destroyed. Last Tuesday, after a cat had worked for a few hours, the trees and bushes that lined the ditch across the road from our home had all disappeared and when the school bus came home at 4:00, there were exactly one dozen angry, sad, disappointed, upset children ranging in age from 5 to 17. Even a calm explanation as to the necessity of such a project didnt help. They were ready to make signs and boycott the cat and its operator. They were all in agreement that adults seem united to their efforts to destroy everything that is fun. I hated to see the trees go, too. There have been quite a few ditches put in our area over the past 5 years or so and the landscape is getting quite barren of trees and small shrubs. Small trees like the will be missed by some people. Many a pioneer family and a few today still enjoy a glass of pottowotomi jam. The tree that the kids hated to see go was a cottonwood tree that has been there as long as I can remember. It was right by the main headgate in the ditch and its branches shaded many young child as they played in the dirt or water. Each spring, we would watch the yearly ritual of the youngsters carrying boards, nails hammers to make the annual tree hut. The most fun was when the older kids put a rope on one of the stronger branches and they would swing across the ditch full of water. The kids fixed a loop in the end of the rope to put their foot in and sometimes one of them would stand on one side and one on the other and not let NOT GUILTY PAYSON COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH Rev. J. Daniel Lupton One of the hardest things in the world is to confess wrong doings. We always give a more kindly treatment to our own moral failures than we do to those of others. We advance our excuses, so plausible to ourselves. We stand on our dignity, our pride choking back our admission of guilt. is a characteristic of the life of today. Confession makes possible and forgiveness forgiveness breaks the tyranny of the past, and sets the mind and heart free. I recently heard of a school boy who asked his father to allow him to buy an elaborate fishing tackle box. Owing to the cost, permission was denied and the incident forgotten. Three months later his mother found the lad crying himself to sleep. For a while nothing would drag the reason for his torment from the person swinging come in on the bank to land and they would be stuck out in the middle with their foot becoming slowly MADE COST OUu PLATES K)A(VAE him. Then, one night the story tumbled out. He had bought the fishing box and had kept it hidden ever since. Every time he opened a certain drawer he saw it. There it was, condemning his disobedience. With his simple admission came forgiveness and the lifting of a grevious burden. It also brought a new unity of relationships and a new beginning. The apostle John understood these principles when he wrote If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. V RX WARP 3 FOR jt Hoe. As they would swing, they would kick water onto the ditch bank and it would be muddly and slippery and so sometimes they would try to land on the bank and could not stay on it because it was so slick. And, at least once during the summer, oneot the older kids would loosen the rope at the top so when one of the smaller children tried it, they landed in the middle of the ditch - wet! The kids have had a good time talking about all the fun they had on the swing over the ditch. One school morning, one of the boys had to take one last swing before the bus came and in his haste he fell in and had to go home for a change of clothes. All the kids in the area would swing on it. As they walked to church or Primary, they would stop and take a swing. So it will be missed by many, - we all feel like weve lost a good friend.
