The girls were winners of the Miss Kearns contest, sponsored by Jaycees and merchants last spring, and have been named by the Proud of Kearns Committee to reign over Home Town Days. Grounds Broken For Bowery At Hunter Park Hunter residents, county officials and civic leaders turned out last Thursday for ground breaking ceremonies for a shelter to be constructed at the Hunter Community Park. Walter Ewell, chairman of the Hunter Park RecreationCom-mitte- e, acted as master of ceremonies. He stated names of donors to park improvements would be placed in a water proof box and placed in the corner stone of the bowery. Mr. EweU thanked all comthe Hunter mittee members, and a special Club Lions thanks to Willard Jones for his part in pushing improvements at the park. Paul Rose, Superintendent, Salt Lake County Recreation Department, stressed the cooperation of civic, church and community leaders in helping with plans and furnishing labor and and work should start soon. Commissioner Larson thanked Commissioner Marvin Jenson for his help in providing heavy equipment. He congratulated Willard Jones for his drive in getting things done. Sloan; publisher of the Valley VieW News was thanked for support given the Hunter Lions in their projects. The 18 member Hunter Lions sold 3,000 ticket for a boat. Over 90 entrees will appear with all participants forming at the Kearns Junior High school promptly at 8:15 a.m. Judging of the many catagories will start at 8:45 a.m. and the at 10:00 parade promptly a.m. Among the outstanding entrees are the Kearns Jaycee Float, Utah-IdaSugar Company and the Granger Jaycee float. Awards will be presented in the following catagories: Grand Prize, Best Queen Float, Best of of Kearns Float, Best Float in Kearns, Best Musical Group, Best Marching Unit, Best Youth Float, Civic Group, Church Float, Riding Group, Best Individual entree, Best Riding Group, Most Humorous, Best Best Small large business, business and four catagories. Mrs. Charles Hall, director of the American Red Cross will give a water safety demonstration. There will be no swimming during the ceremonies.
