Show Minutes of Meeting Held August 19 Of School, Church and Civic Leaders Minutes of meeting held on Aug. 19, 1960 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kearns Junior High School between principals, PTA presidents, church and civic groups leaders. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Dinner was served and enjoyed by the group. Mr. Rowley called the meeting to order. He welcomed those present and thanked them for coming. Rev. Samuelson gave the invocation. Mr. Rowley asked Dr. Brasher to say a few words. Dr. Brasher commented on the problems in Granite School District. He stated that we need to convince the legislature of our situation. He said the school board is aware of all of the problems and will solve them as fast as they can. Mr. Rowley stated that there were two matters to discuss at the meeting. He said he felt that by having community leaders get together with the idea of interchanging ideas and view points, we might serve young people better. One of the matters needing discussion, he said, was in relation to the answer to the question Can ' Page 7 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Thursday, October 13, 1060 we get together on community events in order to get better support from the people? 7. Mr. Rowley mentioned that the schools need to have four PTA meetings each year and that they would like to find nights when someone else would not be meeting also. He said he would like to get things coordinated so it would be agreed that certain nights would be given to certain groups, and that there would be a minimum of conflict 8. Open discussion was held on the idea of a community calendar so that different groups could pick certain nights. A. The question was brought up as to whether this would be only for special meetings or for routine meetings also. It was decided that all meetings should be listed. B. The question of how large a group should be before it would be necessary for them to consult the calendar was solved by the general opinion that any group, regardless of size, would do well to check with the C. The point was brought up that special events should be placed o n the calendar several months in advance. was decided that the group would favor and support a community calendar. E. It was decided that all elementary schools would have D. It their PTA meetings on the same nights, wit hthe junior high having theirs on a different night. The first Thursday in October was decided upon for the elementary schools first PTA meetings and the f ir s t Thursday in November for the junior high. The first Thursday of every other month thereafter for four meetings a year would go to the elementary schools and the first Thursday of the other months would go to the junior high. F. It was decided that the community calendar would be housed in the various schools in Kearns. It was felt that there would be no need for an authority to regulate dates, but that there was a need to have the calendar in a central jlvvrYvrv,v,,v,rvrvvvvvYn place where it would be ac- cessible to everyone. G. It was decided that each week the weekly events which are placed on the calendar would be published in a special column of the Valley View News. 9. Mr. Rowley stated that the second problem requiring discussion by the group is the problem of vandalism. He said he feels we should really make 10.
