Show Thursday, August 25, I960 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Kearns Elders, Wives Band Uniform To Hold Canyon Party Fund Goal The years outstanding social event for the Elders of 'the Kearns Stake will take place at the Spruces in Big Cottonwood Canyon on Friday, Aug. 26. Games will be played at 6 p.m. and supper at 7 p.m. followed by an interesting program. In charge of the event will be Merrill A. Nelson, president of Kearns Stake and chairman of the Medchizedek Priesthood committee. William Dawson Reurns from Washington Trip William A. (Bill) Dawson returned from a quick trip to Washington, D.C. It is understood he made the trip to see his old desk in the House of Representatives. Re reports the dust on it is almost an inch thick. Fine Arts Completed by Club ! Its all over! The band uniforms are ours. After a long struggle, at last the final push did the trick. The Kearns Lions Club and the American Legion Post joined forces and held a Bingo Party at the Catholic Recreation Hall Saturday night, Aug. 19, and brought the remaining balance of the uniform fund down to where the Lions Club could pay off the remaining portion. So, its hats off to all of you who supported the fund so loyally. A job well done a band well HOO-RAY- dressed. Were real pround and we know you will be, too, when you see those youngsters perform in their sparkling, new uniforms. The Lions Club extends special thanks to all of the oragnizations that cooperated in this fine civic endeavor. WAYNE W. Mr. Hielkema stated that at least 800 season tickets must be sold by October 15 or the program must be cancelled. The tickets are $5 per season ticket, and all productions scheduled will be put on by profession-- 1 als, with the exception of the first productions, which will be produced by local talent. The Council was notified at this meeting that Tom Rynearson has eft the County Police force to be on the Highway Patrol and will soon be transferred to Ogden. A replacement for his unexpired term on the Council is being pres-- 1 ently sought. Suggestions for his successor will be solicited from the public. The Council has also been seeking a person to be permanent Town Historian. The Advisory Committee, which is a group composed of officers elected by the Community Development Program, contacted different persons in the Kearns area to find someone who would be best suited and able to fill this position. It was announced at this meeting that Mrs. Sybil Barton had been appointed to the position of Town Historian, with Dorothy Lawrence and Ruth Mathews as assistants. Noel Payne, chairman of the Advisory Committee, announced there will be a Community Development picnic at the West Kearns Park the evening of August 26. All persons who want to attend are asked to bring their own food. Drinks will be furnished. County Fire Chief oJnes will be at the Kearns Fire Department on September 10 to instruct persons in the technique of proper weed burning. There will be a general weed burning Sept. 24 under the Fire Departments supervision. It was also announced that Ralph Carter has contacted Mr. Turner of the County Board of Health who is taking steps to have the burned at the northwest down Drive-I- n corner of eKarns removed. The Town Council thanks all the groups in Kearns who sponsored floats in the 24th of July parade. The next meeting of the Council will be August 29 instead of Sept. 5, because of the Labor Day holiday weekend. And may we hasten to say that we have all missed you terribly. Your return puts joy in our hearts and adds zest to our lives. If there is any way we can be of service to you during the coming year, dont hesitate to stop in. Sooner the better. Everyone Invited To Potluck Picnic Everyone is invited to attend the Kearns Community Development potluck picnic. It will be held at the West Kearns park Friday, Aug. 26, between 6 and 7 p.m. A program has been arranged to start at 7 p.m. and will be held in the e room of the school. Bring your own lunch and join the fun. Bingo Game Set For Saturday St. Francis Church of Kearns will conduct a Bingo Game on AMERICAN DAIRY ASSOCIATION OF UTAH Saturday night in the Churchs recreation hall.
