Kennedt Scho Six Utah high school students who are dependents of Kennecott Copper Corportaion employees have been selected to share a total of $3,000 in scholarships. Mr. J. P. OKeefe, general manager of the Utah Copper Division, said the six will each receive a $500 scholarship to any accredited institution of higher learning in Utah offering a baccalaureate degree. They may enroll for any course of study they desire. The six winners were selected from among applicants from 13 high schools throughout the state. The selection was made on the basis of academic capabilities, leadership potential, citizenship and financial need. This is the sixth year such scholarships have been presented by Kennecott in a program to recognize and give assistance to deserving high school graduates who are dependents of Kennecott employees in Utah. Scholarship winners are: Joyce Elise Bedont, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest J. Bedont, 575 East Center Street, Midvale, student at Jordan High School; Helga Lorraine Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ray Jones, 126 Edith Avenue, Salt Lake City, student at South High School; Floyd G. James, son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. James, 2151 West 7800 South, West Jordan, student at Bingham High School; James A. Starr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Courtland P. Starr, 2595 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, student at Olympus High School; Bob J. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Swimming Racquet Club To be Formed in Granger We take pleasure in announcing the start of construction of the Valley View Swimming and Racquet Club in our community, located at 3950 So. 4000 West. This is to be a private family recreation club to be built on a plot of land approximating 8 GRANGER Kearns 7th Ward Bishopric Reorganized The Bishopric of the Kearns 7th Ward was Sunday, May 15th, under the direction of Merrill A. Nelson, president of the Kearns Stake, Church of Jesus Saints. Christ of Latter-da- y L. Frank Cottrell, builder and contractor, formerly of the Stake High Council was installed as the new bishop of the 7th Ward by President Nelson, to replace former Bishop Albert S. Childs, who plans to continue his studies at the Unj iversity in pursuit of his Ph.D. Raymond T. Smith was chosen as first counsellor to Bishop Cottrell, the same position he had in the former bishopric. Mr. Smith operates the Meadowbrook Golf Club Cafe. John Thompson was appointed second counsellor to the rew bishop, replacing Floyd Gines, who was given a new assignment in the Kearns Stake organization. Elder Vadis Hathaway was elected as the new ward clerk replicing Mr. Blaine Burton.
